Hi everyone,

I went to a fire lecture at work yesterday and found out something very interesting!

If you have NO reception on your mobile phone you can still call the emergency services.

This is an interesting piece of information and could potentially save a life.

Partly.
It's true that you can still call emergency services if you have no reception in your own network, but your phone picks up another one. You then usually even get a "emergency calls only" message on your phone.

If on the other hand you are in an area where your phone picks up no signal of any network provider, your phone will be dead, an you also won't be able to make emergency calls.

The confusion about this subject came up because, unlike other countries, the UK networks for some reason didn't allow this cross-network roaming for emergency services for years. That's been changed though.

So yes, it's highly likely you'll be able to pick up some signal most places in the UK, which will enable you to make emergency calls. If you are in a complete no reception area though, you still won't get anyone. Your phone needs to be able to connect to something, there is no magical fairydust to replace it wink.gif

That is scandalous.
