wave.gif Just surfacing from another mega busy weekend to realise that I missed Nigel Kennedy playing Bach on Satruday evening (BBC R3). Any one hear it? I guess I will catch up on listen again when I have a moment. I wish it had been on TV instead. sad.gif

He is on the TV, on the Proms Fri 12th. Did not hear him on the radio though ..... terrible sad.gif

I thoguth he was on tv in september? :S IS IT THIS FRIDAY? biggrin.gif
anacrusis
Normally his playing really hacks me off - but that was magical. I've heard him yanking about some Vivaldi, with a degree of rubato which didn't work for me, and out of time, and occasionally also out of tune with the orchestra - but this was delicate of touch, thoughtful, and very very musical wub.gif.

Yes I cant stand his Vivaldi, and I would be in fear his Bach will be the same, still not to prejudge........

I have heard him play Bach, (not this recent performance yet though) and it was innovative, a bit wild and fast, amazingly alive, and I honestly don't think Bach would have minded a bit. That's what I find so wonderful about Bach, someone comes up with a really different interpretation and it still sounds true. smile.gif

Listened to it via IPlayer and it was great - and he was quite funny too.

Hasn't he changed his tour dates to late 2011/12? I only found out because the original dates he was doing I couldn't go to and then I found out online that his concerts had been rescheduled. Never have I got on a phone so quickly biggrin.gif

He has, September 12th performance is now 19th January. I think that's how I managed to get such good seats, probably someone couldn't make the rescheduled dates and I was luckily in right place at right time!

Went to visit a friend whose son plays in the NYO. The boy met Nigel Kennedy before he went on stage. apparently he was "well lubricated" before the performance so maybe we all need a little more "lubrication" to play like him!

Just goes to show what a dreadful example this twit is to young players. If he was playing in my back garden I would draw the curtains.

I would like to borrow his hands just for a while, preferable during the exam process. ohmy.gif

Nothing wrong with his hands. It's his brain I have a problem with.

anacrusis
I don't covet his hands or way of playing at all, and really don't care for his "style" - but still, that last performance I have to admit was different from the normal somewhat self-indulgent stuff I've heard before. It still wouldn't make me go out of my way to see him, but I did have to rethink my opinion of his musicality.

Strange how people differ in their opinion. I do not find him self-indulgent. I think he is fab, intelligent, extremely musical - don't know if you have ever seen him do improvising on the violin?, very inventive, i love his views on various issues. I think he is very mis-understood some what. But, any way every one has their own opinion and entitled to that, so i am not saying you are wrong at all. I have meet a few people that have meet him and say he is very lovely person.
