Grade 4 - I have a query about the Romance in G by Hummel.

To pedal or not to pedal?

Also, bar 9, the sostenuto. I assume that means keep sustaining the first note in each group of 3, all the way through the piece.

Any suggestions?

What would be the worst consequences if the candidate didn't manage the ornaments in the RH?

Romance in G is a lovely piece-glad you chose it. I recommend peddling normally until bar 8 but pushing the pedal down ever so slightly in the sostenuto part so it creates a soft ringing sound that does not hold down the first note on each beat in the left hand but still sustains it. then carry on doing this until bar 28. Good luck with the piece and hope i havenot confused you even more!
