hi

ive just done my grade and i chose to o these pieces......

The ballet suite (from russian roulette)
and Andante and Scherzo which i think is by Busser?? this might be the one you are planning on doing??

for my study i did No2 out of the arban!

it took me a while to find nice pieces for my exam. I'm not really a classicl player and pieces like the Haydn, Neruda etc etc didnt suit me. oh well!!

let me know what you choose, if you want any more advice or wanna chat about it just let me know!

Thanks, I'm looking towards that Busser yeah, it seems quite hard and long though lol but I guess at Grade 8 one shouldn't be looking for an easy way out.

A friend of mine is doing Busser and the Ballet Suite- I'm doing the Haydn, unsure about movements.

Thanks a lot

Stephen,

Does the Grade 8 version of the Haydn you're considering have the high Eb in the 1st movement?

I'd be a bit worried about hitting that note and making it sound nice.

Mark.

yep!! the grade 8 version of the haydn has the Eb. this hasnt been a problem for me though, the hardest parts i find are those that need articulation, the semiquaver bit! lol!

the busser is really nice, especially the andante, this is your real chance at showing of your rich tone. it is a long piece, but you should build up your lips to endure it, (lip flexibiltities are the best). the thing that makes this piece hard is the part where you have to articulate/double tongue. this is a major flaw with me!! i cannot double tongue !!!

anyway..... i think the movements you can do for the haydn are either 1&2 or 2&3.???

let us know what you choose to do!

Yes, you do have the option for the pieces with the Haydn. I bought a recording of it the other day, and if you're reeling on the articulation slightle for the first movement, the 3rd is quicker still!! With regards to the top Eb, you can put it down the Octave. I have the Schirmer publication of it, and it has it cued in down an octave and my teacher said that as they don't make you play the Eb on scales, then there is a strong case for not using it in the pieces. Thanks, the Busser is definately interesting. But still any feedback on the other List B pieces would be much obliged, especially the M. Short Pieces.

Why couldn't Busser put the title of his piece in ONE language? "Andante" (Ita) "et" (French) "Scherzo" (Italian)

I've got a spare sealed copy of the 'Music Minus One' music and CD which includes the Haydn Trumpet Concerto if anyone's interested.

Hey I played those pieces for my exam in December!!! wahey! anyhooo
yeah the ballet suite is so fun to play and the busser (1st section) is so poignant...
the no.2 in the arban i found a bit of a pain but once u get round it...you'll still despise it...

Thanks guys, I got the Busser AND the Eben today and on first glance it looks like there's not a huge amount to choose between them. The Eben also starts slowly and softly and for range and so on it's very similar to Busser. I might do either and still either out of Haydn and Ballet Suite. I'm definately doing the Polka for a study though lol!

Thanks a lot

Stephen,

It wouldn't happen to be you who recently bought 15 Dixieland tracks with/without trumpet on eBay, would it?

stephenwright

Stephen,

The only reason I ask the question (3 replies up) is that the winner of the auction was "stephenwtrumpet".

Judging by youy reaction I take it that you're not a fan of this type of music. I ended up also buying a copy of this from the seller and I think it is fantastic fun to play along with.

Mark.

Thanks Mark, very interesting. I do prefer the classical stuff, but i can do jazz and I play in Hertfordshire Youth Jazz ENsemble. On ebay, I'm registered as "lisson184."
