I have a piano pupil whose mum and dad are getting married in December and they would like her to play at the wedding. She has been learning for about 10 months and is about Prep Test level. She`s 8 years old and fairly confident. Has anyone any suggestions for something she could play?

I'd leave the choice until nearer the time as at that level she may be learning short pieces fairly quickly.
I'd let her choose a favourite piece or two.

If the student is Prep Test level now then maybe the Grade One's Gavotta? The hands stay in one position throughout and is a lovely piece. Alternatively there are some lovely graded books (inc prep test level) which include modern pop songs as well as easy arrangements of some classics - Making the Grade series books spring to mind.

Hope this helps.

Beethoven's Ode to Joy is a real favourite, suitable for the occasion and sounds quite impressive for what it is.

Lots of books (Pauline Hall, Bastien etc.) have versions, which can be adjusted just slightly if need be.

Otherwise here is a D major version, feely available, which is about Prep level. (You could always transpose it to C or G major if you really wanted to)/

Haha-you have to be to do this job! To be honest,I`d totally forgotten I`d joined the forum till I suddenly needed some inspiration about this wedding piece.
Ah well-better late than never.

That`s a brilliant idea-I`d not thought of that one!
She`d probably manage the version in D with a bit of work.
Thanks!
