Re Anna Butterworth's Harmony in Practice: Parts 1, 2 and 3 are Triads & Chords, Simple Progressions and Extended Progression - 11 chapters in total. Are all these chapters relevant to Grade 6?

If you are familiar with the "Pink Book" - that takes you through all the material for grades 1-5, but is not set out in grade related order. Same with the Butterworth. It has all the material for grades 6-8, but again is not in grade order. I would recommend reading all of it to ensure that enough info is taken on board for grade 6. Actually, if you skip some of the exercises, it isn't too long.

Or look at the syllabus which tells you The harmonic vocabulary expected at each grade.

Thank you both for your replies. Stetenorve, yes I know the pink book so I see what you mean about Harmony in Practice. It's a bit overwhelming so I was secretly hoping not to have to go through all of it at this stage if I didn't need to! I'll keep ploughing my way through it though until I get stuck and then I'll probably need to ask you learned folk for help again. sbhoa, I did look at the syllabus but because the terminology is different (eg the syllabus doesn't use terms like progressions, scale movements etc), I found it difficult to relate the syllabus to the Harmony in Practice contents. I've had another look at it and I suspect it will become clearer as I work my way through it and get more familiar with the terminology. Thanks again, both of you.
