Hi all

I've been playing some grade 3 pieces, and as well as trying to improve my tone I have been trying to attempt vibrato... I have the violin pieces on the abrsm cd. Like I said I have been having a go myself through listening to the cd and just wondered what people's thoughts were on teaching vibrato to yourself? Or is there a need for a teacher and also do you have to use vibrato at grade 3? It might seem a stupid question.. but I have never done a violin exam before. So all advice is very much appreciated. smile.gif

Thanks
Joy

Hi Joyjoy, no you don't need vibrato until grade 5 biggrin.gif, just concentrate on a few things at a time. I think getting a teacher would be a good idea even if it is only one lesson a month.

No, you don't have to use vibrato until grade 5, but you can practise it before then, of course. It would be a lot better if you got a teacher who will make sure that you aren't picking up any bad habits.
Good luck!

this is a recent thread about vibrato that I found helpful biggrin.gif

Thank you all for your help.. well I am glad you don't have to do vibrato until grade 5, however I am going to keep trying it.

A lesson a month sounds like a good thing smile.gif

Thanks

Someone (possibly Cheeble) posted a good explanation of how to learn it on another thread (it sounded good, I've never learnt or attempted it so I can't vouch properly for effectiveness wink.gif); not a teacher replacement but certainly could help you to have a go.

Edit: I just realised that Sarah posted that before, sorry Sarah I wasn't ignoring you: just being unobservant!
