Wife keen for youngest daughter to start harp, we know no one who actually plays harp. How old has she got to be to start lessons? She is having beginner's lesson in piano at the moment.

It depends on your daughter's maturity and on the experience of local teachers with young students. The youngest I have taught was a fairly mature 6 year old (and personally I prefer teaching older people) but some teachers will start from 4 with the right student.

I hope your daughter herself wants to play harp; that is not clear from your question and vitally important.

Only if your daughter is dying to play would be my advice. Age is ok if aptitude ok and you find a good teacher for that age. Start with a hire harp unless you own one and see what happens.

My daughter's teacher will take four year olds, but as others have said, it depends on the individual child and teachers. I'd start by trying to see what teachers you have locally, see what they say. You don't say where you are but you can get lists of harp teachers from

http://www.pilgrimharps.co.uk/teachers.htm or
http://www.affairsoftheharp.com

The people at Pilgrim are always extremely helpful. I don't know the people at Affairs of the Harp, but I have heard good things of them from others.
