My daughter has just passed her grade 8 and she is now playing euphonium at uni though it is just for fun -- she is not reading music. She has been spoiled by renting a york eminence 4 valve euphonium which she had from new and which retails for over pds 3k. We have to give it back this December as it is rented by the schools music service. We cannot afford to buy a similar one new so I am looking for a second hand one. Have no idea where to start but would be most grateful for an opinion on whether a besson international 4 valve euphonium which is 7 or 8 years old would be good value at pds 600? In particular what is the difference between a student and a professional euphonium? I was told the besson was a professional instrument but on googling it it is listed as "intermediate" whatever that means. Do I need to worry about compensating and non compensating? Any advice at all on buying a second hand euphonium would be much appreciated.

I'd pop over to www.themouthpiece.com and post this as you will get lots of advice and help there. The brass forum on here is not the most active board!

The cheapest way to get a good euphonium is to join a brass band that has a good set of instruments. wink.gif

Not sure if this has been resolved but the instrument you were on about seems like a good deal if it is in good condition.
