Valentina Lisitsa is playing a solo concert at The Royal Albert Hall on Tuesday, 19 June 2012. Be there or be square.

Lots of thinking (hotel or no hotel)

Whether you like her or not, she's had the effect of getting more people into classical piano music, and that can only be a good thing.

Having said that, Tuesday is rarely a good night for me to be concert visiting, so I shall very much be like the gentleman below.

Whether you like her or not, ...

What is not to like.

She plays very well, she is approachable (not a prima donna), she sets a good example to wannabe pianists (of sustained hard work) and she is not bad looking either.

I'd go, were it not for the logistics, and I'm not besotted. smile.gif

Does it say anywhere what she will be playing?

In all fairness, she has grown as a musician since I first heard of her. She has always had a staggering technique, but her earlier stuff is nothing more than cold hard notes in the right place at top speed (example her Chopin Etudes).

I recently came across her youtube video of a couple of Schubert/Liszt songs (M?dchens Klage and Erlk?nig) and have to say it is the most musical I have ever heard her sound; MK is beautiful and moved me so much that I am now learning it myself, EK suits her "let's play ridiculously fast" style down to the ground, but she was able to pull it back when needed in ways I have never heard done before.

If she carries on like that, I can see myself being won over!

She's inviting her fans to suggest her programme. I saw her in Ealing recently and her Totantanz is simply breathtaking, as are her Schubert/Liszt songs (here she is playing Des M?dchens Klage and Erlk?nig). I'd like to hear Rachmaninov Sonata No. 1 as well.
