This piece (earlyish 20th C French) was on the grade 6 'C' list for 2007/8 and I was wondering whether any of you know it. I am thinking of buying a copy but at ?10.50 including postage I would like an opinion or two first.

Oh no they don't - I have already enquired! A number of dealers are advertising it but I have only found one, maybe two, who actually have a copy in stock. All the others say their advertised price is out of date. I don't mind paying GBP 10.50 if the piece is to my liking, so I live in hope that someone out there will be able to comment.

PS Why doesn't the UK pound sign work here?

Oh dear. Sorry.

Well, despite no feedback, I bought it......all 3 pages for GBP 10.50. I wish I could tell you it's a little gem, but I think that would be streching the point. It is however perfectly pleasant and of only moderate difficulty.

The date on my copy idicates it was published in 1987 although one would have thought it came from an earlier part of the 20th century. For the most part we have a solo with string accompanyment. Despite some atonality in the music there are actually two village church 'amen' (plagal) cadences to be found. They are handled skilfully so one forgives!

For less than GBP 10.00 I recently bought the Kalmus album of French and German Christmas Music, and again for less than GBP 10 the Oxford Service Music, Manuals & Pedals Book 3. Both of these are incomparably better value.

Couldn't help you with it; I try not to like anything French.
Hope you enjoy it, as I hope to enjoy the piece of Howells I've just received (not without problems as noted in the Random thoughts thread)

Getting excited at all the Advent-y things I can take out of cold storage.

Apologies for interjecting, but the answer re cost is it's French music - it's always ludicrously expensive and poor quality too (Faure Requiem GBP5 Novello, Durufle Requiem GBP25 Durand - started falling apart after just one perfromance mad.gif )

Organist friends are always complaining about the cost of French music....

EDIT: removed 'e' accute as they don't work! Someone in admin needs to fix the system defaults and settings. Or upgrade the bulletin board software to something more current!
