I'll get modulated that's certain.

Is that when they add sharps to you???

And is a roostertail a drink you make by mixing diverse alcoholic beverages? I like this idea, whatever Tom thinks...
sarah-flute
if anyone's ever in St Petersburg, there's an Irish pub which has a roostertail happy three hours. it's called Molly's. worth a visit. good food too!

Maybe if I get modulated that will sort out my problems with TOM?

Yup, being tommodulated is quite fun actually. Like being transmogrified but make sure you're the lower part so you don't have resolution problems if things go off-beat.
.(not smirking, onnistly - definitely a non-smirker, me)
Boys have a different tom of course: Rom, and it happens a couple of days before payday. R out of M can be quite embarassing if you have to buy sunshine drinks or something. Curiously, females can be the cause of this ailment.

Doesn't take much to set him off though, so don't feel too bad.

What I'm wondering is what's he doing on a Ladies thread anyway? Or is he just getting in touch with his feminine side. (I thought there was a law against that in Sussex, certainly the part I come from).

Nope. But what IS this victimisation. The subtitle said, "A question for the ladies."

I haven't attempted to answer it. If I were female I'd probably be closer to an aristocratic scrubber than a lady!!!!!! But I've had enough contact with ladies to know that they need chaperoning so things don't get out of hand (so to speak!) or into the wrong hand (so to speak again).

reminds me of the story about two 3-4 year olds .....

Jonny: (knocks at the bathroom door) Can I come in - I need the loo!

Jenny: No - wait a minute. You can't come in .... I'm in my nightie and mummy said little boys shouldn't see little girls in their nighties.

(Pause) It's ok you can come in now - I've taked it off.

...................................................................................................................

and on the subject of child logic ....

Little boy next door: "can you come over and play with me?"

Little girl: "No, I'm not allowed. Mummy said you're rude so I can't come over...

..... but you can come over and play with me - I'm not rude."

(back to topic now, quick).

Oh my word. Maggie, what DOES that mean?

I still can't understand this one I heard on the student's forum:

Teacher (seeing a puddle under Mary's desk): Mary!!! I thought I told you to put your hand up if you wanted to use the toilet!
Mary: I did, Miss, but it kind of leaked through.

(Or should I edit that out (defeated by my own innocence here)?)

Maybe best to get back to the topic as you say... I am intrigued because it is SO obviously taboo that a male dares to BE here, let alone comment, yet ladies are always ready to blame men who aren't sympathetic or cannot accept this as a perfectly natural part of a month - hormone changes do regulate a lot from mood to top C and wellbeing generally. Men pretty-well built the environment in which this is unacceptable. But they too have hormone swings but pretend they don't so it afflicts us all.

I've assumed the female attitude is protectionism over their mysteries. Men don't understand (say the women). (Well, they never will: neither gender can "understand" the mysteries of the other.) But men aren't allowed anywhere near (in most cases). They just have to bear the brunt.

Huhhhh, that isn't really on topic either. Liked your little stories, Maggie!

Deborah; re. Tom Hampson: Would not surprise me a whole lot but then you could say the same of Ian Bostridge, and yet I read they were both married....which I suppose does not really prove anything either way....anyone else know more?

I have noticed that. I sometimes wonder why women are called the weaker sex because they aren't when it comes to dealing with this and other pains (of life and otherwise).

Curious. I mean... all the consequence of certain religion-inspired taboos no doubt. One doesn't shun a woman with a nose-bleed. At least I wouldn't. So........

I suppose this is the latest phase of a self-denying, cathartic morality. I'm obviously out of fashion.

And, Wyld, sorry, I mean, Sari...I did notice your excellent puns. You are so obviously better than me!

Maybe, but remember that when these taboos were formed, people didn't have had the knowledge we have now of why it was happening, and certainly not the range of products available (e.g. chocolate, hot water bottles, chocolate, Pride and Prejudice videos, chocolate) to make TOM more bearable.

Now, agree with me or I'll burst into tears!

Oh I do I do I do.... most aquiesatiously... (he hurries to say)!

Point is, strange that the taboo persists - says rather badly about the state of enlightenment...(just a whimsical thought in passing, you uderstand) and as my dearest mum points out, some of these products also double up as dusters to polish piano top and clean the windows etc*, as she suffered rather heavily and needed those as well as the choclit and Darcy connections until later years...

Most agreeworthy, so no cry.

some of which persist to this day....

One of my students who originally came from another part of the world had to stay at home for a certain number of days when this thing started. Her mum informed me she would have had to stay in for a month if they were still living at home. Once the priest had visited she could go out.

sad.gif

The poor child (ex-child perhaps I should say) was doing an exam and to avoid missing a vital lesson I had to visit her.
