FINALLY considering upgrading my Buffet E11 clarinet which i've had for around 17 years to an E13. Does anyone know if there's a huge difference between both models? I'd only really be using it to teach with so not sure if i can justify spending that amount of money! clarinet.gif

I used E11s for years and years, until skipping the E13 completely, and going straight to R13s. If it's purely for teaching purposes for grade 8 and before, I'm not sure that I'd consider going to the E13, fab clarinet though it is : the E11 will I feel do all you want.

I agree with Barry - there isn't enough difference between an E11 and an E13 to make it worthwhile spending the cash. I'd keep saving and get either an R13 or one of the other makers models of an equivalent level.

^These are the specifications for the two claris - you might find them useful wink.gif

Hmmm, I see lots and lots of E11's and don't think they have much character (sometimes a good thing though) smile.gif They are technically good enough for any player up to around diploma level IMO BUT swap the mouthpiece!

E13s are also good instruments and I think they offer a little more but not necessarily more than your E11, wooden clarinets especially are all very different.

Remember there are many more marques than Buffet out there! Try many smile.gif You may find you love anything from a technologically advanced Hanson pro model to a Buffet 1930s Pre-R13! Just remember some of the older instruments can have "suspect" tuning issues and if you play with others a lot in bands and need to blend in a more "standard" instrument could be better.

Sorry... laugh.gif

I don't think the E13 is enough of a change from the E11 to warrant buying it, as I said above, I went to R13s straight from E11s, while retaining an E11 for teaching purposes.

Sorry : was being a touch sarcastic : 'more than diploma level' read to me as 'beyond Fellowship diploma level' (the highest diploma you can obtain)... laugh.gif

blink.gif Two things I fail at : using left hand little finger (on violin AND clarinet, would you believe) and understanding sarcasm (but I can be very sarcastic if I wanted to!)
