There are a small number of 'double bass' singers who sing an octave lower than normal - very rare. I've only ever encountered one.

Most 2nd basses would at best get to around the A (which makes Rachmaninov Vespers feasible!)

Wow, optimistic or what? I would think his best chance of finding a voice that low is in Russia. They seem to breed contrabasses with very low notes and good resonance. I think it must be a combination of genetics, winter temperatures, cigarettes and vodka.

The one I knew was as wide as he was tall!
