Since I live in a 1st floor flat I thought it would be a little impractical and unfair to the neighbours If I purchased an acoustic piano, so I decided to buy a digital piano (Yamaha 465GP). Whilst the digital piano is actually quite nice I do still notice a considerable difference between key actions from when I'm practising at home to when I have my lessons on a baby grand acoustic.
I am intending to work through the ABRSM grading system. I work full-time, so the majority of my practice has to happens between 7pm and 10pm. I'm now thinking I should have looked into getting a silent acoustic piano in the first place! Has anyone got one? How do they find it?
Thanks in advance?

I have a Yamaha U3 silent and it is great. With a decent set of headphones, you can hardly tell the difference between silent mode and normal acoustic. I don't think the electronics can produce the same dynamic range compared to playing the acoustic but it's a minor criticism really.

Ok thanks for that.
I think no matter how good the electronic technology is there's never going to be a real substitute for a true acoustics sound, but what I'm really more interested in is the 'real' action of the keys. I have played 3 acoustic pianos through 2 different teachers now and the feel on all 3 pianos is so different to the key action of the digital technology?. Maybe not the case if I had 15,000 to spend. I think even at my very early stages of graded exams I'm really going to struggle with achieving the dynamic range on the acoustic piano in the exam....
The Yamaha U3 Silent piano looks to be a fine piano.
Thanks for your viewpoint, it's very much appreciated.

The action of the keys is the same, whether in silent mode or normal acoustic mode.

I have a yamaha u3 with silent system fitted. In himdsight I wish I hadn't had the silence system fitted as the practice pedal is more than adequate for me. I don't like the lightness of they keys when in silent mode. They are very very light. I also find the sound a bit tinny. But on the flipside I have used the silent system for very late or early practice, though it does bug me lol.
