I've dug outmy old exam results and would really like to know what I played, but other than my grade 5, they only list the numbers and not the names of the pieces. Is there anywhere that I might be able to find the historic syllabuses?

I randomly have one from about 1998 if that's any use?
MrsB
Thanks, have you got the entire syllabus? I'm looking for oboe '95-'96 so it depends when the syllabus changed...

Yeah, I do. It covers from 1998 - 1999. I doubt many changes will have occurred. Tell me a Grade and I'll tell you the pieces smile.gif
MrsB
It's worth a try, thanks.

Grade 2 A7, B1 & C4 - '95
Grade 3 A2, B8 & C4 - '96

Grade 2 A7, B1 & C4 - '95

Grade 2
A7 - J.J. Rousseau - Reverie from 'Oboe Music to Enjoy'
B1 - Mary Chandler - Habanera from '3 Dance Studies'
C4 - Sullivan - Poor Wandering One from 'Melodies For Pleasure'

Grade 3
A2 - Schumann - First Loss from 'Second Book of Oboe Solos'
B8 - Tchaikovsky - Reverie - 9 Short Pieces from '3 Centuries'
C4 - Hinke - Elementary School (Peters P-2418)

I hope that helps
MrsB
Thanks for that smile.gif

Unfortunately I don't think it's the right syllabus. It's a shame they don't have them on the site; although I guess most people probably want to forget their exams after they've done them laugh.gif

If you email the board asking for a syllabus for a specific year they're generally quite helpful. They won't give you the whole back catalogue of syllabi but single requests are usually honoured.
MrsB
I will give that a try, thanks! smile.gif

I've got the oboe 1996/97 syllabus, and the syllabus is as above for that book, though it says that the oboe syllabus changed in January 1996 : so my suspicion is you're looking for the 1994/95 book, and I'll also guess you did grade 3 from the old syllabus in the first session of '96. smile.gif

Apparently I took G3 in June, so maybe the G3 is right and I'm just not recognising the pieces! blush.gif does it have a study number for the Hinke piece?

It says no. 8 or no. 12. I hope this helps.
MrsB
Thanks again.

Can I be cheeky and ask you to see if it has the page numbers for the hinke studies as well? i think the G3 stuff is correct and I've just got my old music back smile.gif

This prompted me to have a look through my old piano exam books, had a lovely play through of my old Grade 7 pieces from 1984! So weird - a couple of them played just like I had played them yesterday, my hands just knew where to go! Now if only I could learn my diploma pieces that easily 28 years later!!!

If of any use to anyone I have the following piano exam books.....

Grade 2 1979
Grade 3 1980
Grade 4 1981
Grade 5 1982
Grade 6 1983
Grade 7 1984.

I have the Grade 6 piano book for 1986. It also has the main lists for other grades listed in the front (though not the alternative pieces). Which grade would you like? smile.gif

I would dearly love to know what pieces I played for grade 7 piano in 1980. It was list A and I'm sure that the first piece was a Bach fugue. Does anyone have the book?

One of my favourite finds when I restarted the recorder was finding the Trinity exam pieces book for the last exam I'd taken - Grade 4 treble recorder in 1990ish. I worked out my list A piece from the music, my list B piece from the title (I remembered a discussion with my teacher about how the title related to the music/style), and the list C piece...well, that turned out to be the bit of music I'd been humming when not thinking about anything else, for the preceeding 16 years or so (Chaconne from Purcell's Faerie Queen!)
