I was wondering if there are any nice clarinet and violin duets. I'm looking for something for me to play with an intermediate level clarinettist. Violin part could be of any difficult up to LRSM - clarinet part up to grade 6, maybe easy grade 7.
I'm going to post this in Viva Strings too so I hope I don't get banned for cross-posting!

Yeah, I'm going to report you tongue.gif wink.gif (not really!)

There's not a lot out there : Hindemith wrote a violin/clarinet duet which may be suitable. Otherwise, have a think about flute/clarinet duets that may be adaptable. smile.gif

Thanks Barry - I've have a look at some flute/clarinet duets.
I suppose clarinet/clarinet duets might also work as I can transpose at sight so that wouldn't be a problem.

Yes, many would : but bear in mind clarinets go marginally lower than violins do - so tread carefully.

Violin/viola duets?

I had to find some violin + clarinet duets recently and found the June Emerson website a good place to start. They sell wind music, but have quite a lot of stuff for "mixed ensemble" or "mixed duet" and it's possible, for instance, to browse through music for clarinet and strings. The website is here:

I don't have any specific recommendations. I was looking for relatively simple stuff for gcse performance and we ended up with three pieces for violin, clarinet, and piano, which were certainly adaptations of things originally written for other combinations of instruments. The website does give an indication of the general degree of difficulty, but not for each instrument involved in an ensemble, I'm afraid.

If you can find a pianist, there's a Trio by Milhaud (op57 I think) which isn't all too difficult for any instrument and it's really fun music smile.gif

I saw that Trio and it looked great but I am lacking a pianist (which is another problem...)
