You'll be fine. Keep practising them. You have 1/2 term next week, so in theory, you'll have more time and be more chilled out

If you fail, I promiser to consume a large quanity of peas. I
loathe peas...or even better... pea soup!
(Don't fail now Natalie will you..

)

Tamsin, that is the same as me eating a whole load of fruit. I hate fruit, and my friends have made me eat fruit for Lent (2 pieces a day!!!) ERGH!

Feb 9 2005, 05:34 PM
OK, well if Natalie failes, (and you decide you will endure fruit like I will peas) them we'll both get very healthy... NOT Natlie, that that gives you a reason to fail.

I have to say that I like sweetcorn. Its amazing, I mean sweet vegetables!
Although I have heard you don't digest it.
Tamsin, I too hate peas. EwwwwwI know you can't read it but I like colours.

You won't fail Nat, and if you do there is NO WAY that I would eat peas
Your exam is the day before I go to Spain!
nicki_flute
Feb 9 2005, 06:44 PM
Maybe if you fail, I should eat 5 portions of fruit a day. Now, I don't know whether I could manage that!!!
Keys
Feb 9 2005, 06:46 PM
Does anyone out there manage to eat 5 portions a day?
Calling all ye healthy people!
Lucia
Feb 9 2005, 07:26 PM
not five portions of fruit. I think fruit is boring, although summer type fruits aren't too bad. I prefer veggies.

And you will pass Nat.

Well I'm not promising to eat peas for any event, no matter how improbable!
Aren't the arpeggios just the ones that you passed grade 5 doing only in the last exam period just more octaves? You can do them and you have done them. It does sound more daunting in all the keys but a lot of them are the same, if you split them into ones that are the same and only practice one from each pattern for a while to get them going and then learn the rest afterwards (you'll actually find that you can do them already just start on a different note). Maybe splitting up what you have to learn into fewer problems will help you mentally overcome what seems like a bigger hurdle than it really is: you always seem to be under a big pile of achieving a huge task but if you break it down into smaller chunks (oh, no I'm starting to sound like BBC bitesize now

) you'll find it a lot easier to practically deal with. Good luck, tell yourself you can and you will....

the examiner in grade 5 commented on my arpeggios being bad! not in that exact wording, but he said i made slips in them

Somehow an extra 2 octaves at a much faster speed seems to make a huge difference with arpeggios! What do you think?
I wouldn't worry about it too much Nat, I completely forgot some arpeggios in my last piano exam, and had to have several attempts to get it right but the rest of the scales were ok, so overall the score in the scales section was still quite good (suprisingly)
If you make huge mistakes you can still do well, I think its highly unlikely you will fail just on arpeggios as long as you're ok with your pieces
saxlover
Feb 10 2005, 07:27 PM
in a calm situation my pieces are ok, but put me in front of someone haha i mess everything up

Feb 10 2005, 07:31 PM
My piano teacher said once to imagine the examiner is sitting on the toilet, or something to that effect............that help?

Feb 10 2005, 07:33 PM
nothin helps, im just awful in front of people in an exam situation
uberzoldat
Feb 10 2005, 07:36 PM
well i don't know if this has any relevance, but all other exams i have had, i've gone in there nervous, and worrying before it and everything, but the last one i took i was determined not to be nervous at all, and I went in and did it, and made more of a mess of it then I had done any other.
So in a way, I think that the nerves help somehow and you can use the adrenaline to your advantage (or am I just spouting rubbish now?

)
saxlover
Feb 10 2005, 07:44 PM
you talk sense lol!! i cant use the adrenaline to my advantage, it just doesn't work for me! if one thing goes wrong then everything goes wrong. basically if i mess up my 1st piece then its guaranteed the whole exam will be dreadful, so i might as well walk out then
uberzoldat
Feb 10 2005, 07:48 PM
do you usually do your pieces or scales first?
saxlover
Feb 10 2005, 07:48 PM
