Is there any music that people know of, which is arranged for either two low tenors or two baritones, with or without accompaniament.

Me and my friend have almost exactly the same voice, so it would be nice if we could get together to sing two part music etc.

Thanks

There's a gorgeous duet from the Pearl Fishers by Bizet that just gets me every time!

Not sure what the range is on that - but maybe worth investigating?

Good luck!

If you can get get someone to throw in the Commendatore's "Si" (one note), try "O Statua gentilissima" from Don Giovanni.

There might be some Schubert part-songs too - out of fashion these days but he wrote quite a few.

How about composing your own? Nothing ventured etc.

I belong to a quartet (2 guys, 2 girls) that does charity concerts. All combinations of voices do duets and here are some of the guys' successes:

If you want a good party piece try the Gendarmes Duet (Offenbach). It's a real hoot - I've seen it done with gestures and an inflatable baton.

Gilbert & Sullivan's Gondolieri duet is another crowd pleaser (the upper voice has top A as its highest note so not sure if that's in your range).

The lads are currently doing "Excelsior" by Balfe - a wonderful OTT piece that starts simply and gets more and more complicated with the refrain "excelsior" at the end of every line. I've heard it a couple of times & still haven't a clue what it's actually about, but it's good stuff!

Finally, (and this is for any voices, not specifically baritones), check out "Folk songs for two" by Jay Althouse (ISBN 0-88284-973-5). It's got some really interesting arrangements. Songs on it include "Poor Wayfaring Stranger", "Skye Boat Song", "Scarborough Fair" and "Shenandoah". Great for almost any combination of voices (and I'm told, good fun for the pianist too).

Hope this inspires you - keep singing!
