Hello,
I'm taking some reception classes soon and have been asked to give a short musical workshop (very basic songs, rhythm clapping exercises etc).
I have a few games planned but would love to hear of anymore which would work with reception aged children!
Thanks

You could get hold of Jolly Music Beginners for some Kodaly based ideas - songs, pulse games and pulse based movements.

There is a nursery rhyme which starts out "My grandfather clock goes tick tock tick tock" That gives you crotchet beats, and it goes through other time pieces which give you quavers etc. If you get them to clap it, then stamp it, then move around the room to it, it's a good warm up. You can also use percussion instruments, but not if they get too excited! I used it several times in my teaching practice to qualify as a dance teacher. I'm sorry I can't remember the rest of the rhyme but that was 30 years ago!

Yes, there are lots of songs and rhymes in the Jolly Music Beginners' Book that you can use very successfully with this age group.
If you want any more details of either the books, songs or games please PM me.
