Nice one! I wonder whether it would be better as the British Broadcasting Service? wink.gif

PM a moderator : they'll change it biggrin.gif

Back on topic - interesting Proms to my mind...

19 (Sat 28 July) - Shostakovich Cello no.1, Tchaik symphony no.6
28 (Sat 4 Aug) - Mozart Flute Concerto with James Galway, Stravinsky Firebird, Chabrier Espana
32 (Mon 6 Aug) - Bernstein Mass
40 (Sun 12 Aug) - National Youth Wind Orchestra/National Youth Brass Band of GB, with various wind band works by Martin Ellerby, Derek Bourgeois and Gustav Holst, amongst others
50 (Mon 20 Aug) - Mozart Clarinet Concerto wub.gif with Michael Collins, plus Beethoven's Egmont, Nielsen and Delius
59 (Mon 27 Aug) - the sublime John Wilson orchestra with 'The Broadway Sound' (one assumes this is the New York version, not the Ealing or Bexleyheath version laugh.gif )

...and once again I'm hoping to be at the London Proms in the Park on Saturday 8th September. Email or PM me if interested in sharing the picnic that I shall spend many b-c pounds on laugh.gif

Quite a few proms I fancy but they're either before or after I'm in the UK. Or when I'm planning to be at Dartington (eg Britten / Peter Grimes, Mozart Clari concerto...). sad.gif

High on my list would be the Late Night Prom No.44 on 14 Aug (Ligeti, Xenakis, Cage, Berio and more) but would mean bunking in the metropolis...

I also quite fancy a sing-along eg Berlioz Requiem on 11 Aug. The Ivor Novello night (No. 36 on 9 Aug) would be something fun and different (at least for me)...

I might be up for No.40 with you, b-c. smile.gif

Too bad Proms in the Park is only 8 September.

I can't go to that one sad.gif because I shall be in Bayreuth woot.gif

Usual mix of good, bad and indifferent, but enough to tempt me up to London for a Prom or two. Or three...

Ooo, lots to choose from this year, I even considered a season ticket for a second blink.gif

Queued up quite a few on the proms planner before checking the televised list which has quite a few good ones on full coverage this year:

1, 5, 7, the whole Beethoven symphony cycle, 23-Ireland & RVW, 26, 27, 29-NYO, 32-Bernstein Mass, 33, 36, 38-NYJO, 45-Dvorak/Copland/Ginastera, 46-RVW, 49, 57, 59-Broadway Sound, 61-Howells/Elgar, 75 & 76. Why leave home? wacko.gif

Taking some those out the equation means I'll probably go for at least Prom 2: Lerner & Loewe (totally self-indulgent but John Wilson and Previn's orchestration of My Fair Lady is too good to miss), Prom 40: NYWO/NYBB, Prom 61 & 62: Eric Whitacre. Seriously considering 35, 37, 51/52, 60 and Proms in the Park. Could be an expensive year.

I'm certainly liking the 2012 programming! biggrin.gif

Will be at Prom 40. Chance to watch daughter at the BBC Proms is definitely too good to miss even though I could live without hearing two brass band test pieces in the second half - Not a fan of Blitz even though I generally like Bourgeois writing but Gavin Higgins's work is great so looking forward to that and the Martin Ellerby

Is it only me or have other people found that the links are broken when you try to find out more details about any particular concert?
Arundodonuts
Well here are the ones I like the look of. Lots of iPlayer I reckon.

Prom 3: Debussy ? Pell?as et M?lisande. Not heard it before.
Prom 4: Respighi, Ravel and Adams. One of the few piano concertos I really love and an Adams piece I don't know.
Prom 5: Strauss, Saariaho & Sibelius. Strauss and Sibelius. Nuff said.
Prom 7: Handel ? Water Music and Music for the Royal Fireworks. Le Concert Spirituel. Should be a treat.
Prom 15: Smetana, Prokofiev & Dvoř?k. An orchestrated version of Smetana's String Quartet No 1. Should be interesting.
Prom 21: Aldeburgh World Orchestra. Britten Sinfonia da Requiem (not often enough performed), Stravinsky The Rite of Spring.
Prom 25: Ives, Barber, Zimmermann & Tippett. I haven't listened to A Child of Our Time in its entirety, so I should. Plus Ives Unaswered Question.
Prom 29: National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. I understand Nico Muhly is worth a listen and I love Varese. Turangalila I can leave.
Proms Saturday Matinee 3: Britten Sinfonia. Nick Daniel on Cor Anglais.
Prom 40: National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain & National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain. Go on. It's got to be worth it for the Holst and Walton plus I'm interested to hear the Bourgeois.
Prom 41: Schoenberg ? Gurrelieder. If you haven't heard it, have a listen.
Prom 44: London Sinfonietta. Time to make up your mind about 4' 33". This one really should be televised for the Berio Sequenza. But it won't be so here's a link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqlUhN7TbAk...be_gdata_player
Prom 47: Cage Centenary Celebration. Well you have to give it a go. Some of it will be fun.
Proms Saturday Matinee 4: Birmingham Contemporary Music Group. Knussen, Goehr and Bainbridge.
Proms Chamber Music 6: Escher Quartet. Debussy's wonderful String Quartet.
Prom 51: Glinka, Howard & Shostakovich. The Leningrad!
Prom 54: Davies, Delius & Shostakovich. Delicious Delius played by Tasmin Little and the RLPO playing Shos 10. Should be a treat.
Prom 55: Britten ? Peter Grimes wub.gif wub.gif wub.gif wub.gif
Prom 57: Wagner, Berg, R. Strauss & Ravel. Berg's gorgeous violin concerto, La Valse and Rosenkavalier. Pass the Sachertorte.
Proms Chamber Music 7: Debussy Sonata for flute, viola and harp. Schoenberg Pierrot lunaire.
Prom 60: Mozart ? The Marriage of Figaro. Glyndebourne and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. That'll be proper Mozart then.
Prom 63: Berliner Philharmoniker and Sir Simon Rattle. If only for Ligeti and Sibelius.
Prom 64: Berliner Philharmoniker ? Brahms & Lutosławski. Lutoslawski Symphony No. 3.
Prom 69: Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra ? Messiaen & Mahler. Et Exspecto.....
Prom 71: St Louis Symphony. Beethoven violin concerto and Schoenberg Five Orchestral Pieces in this one.
Prom 72: John Adams ? Nixon in China. Conducted by Adams.
Prom 75: Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra ? Haydn & R. Strauss. Bernard Haitink. An Alpine Symphony.

It has shops, a very good Chinese restaurant with karaoke available, and as far as I know, no songs ever written about it laugh.gif

Prom 7 - Handel. I'm on holiday though so can't go. Which is probably just as well, as with a finish of 11.30pm and a last train of 11.45pm (from Liverpool Street), it means I don't even have to think about the logistics of it smile.gif

Proms Saturday Matinee 1: Bach - The Art of Fugue. This is the afternoon of the day I come back from holiday, so also not an option to attend rolleyes.gif

Proms Chamber Music 3: La Tarantella. This is on a Monday lunchtime. Which sounds like it might be a great excuse to have a day off work and potter around The Big Smoke for a bit, with some music in the middle smile.gif

Booking opened yesterday. How did people fare?

I have my season ticket biggrin.gif
JamesK
This year will be my first ever time that I'll will watch a professional Orchestra play biggrin.gif
A question:
Promming/Standing:
Can you buy the ticket early (2 and half hours before the concert) then enter a bit later? I don't want to join the queue late after spending money to travel to London and not get a concert.
Arena or gallery?

Does sitting in the Choir diminish the sound of the horns?

Prom 27: Siegfried, Bruckner 8
prom 28: Firebird,
Prom 34: Schubert Unfinished, Strauss: Heldenleben
Prom 48: Freischutz, Tchaik Manfred
Prom 75: Haydn, Strauss Alpensinfonie

I just saw the program for the last night. Hnery Wood's British sea songs is a comeback (by popular demand I wonder) happy.gif

On arrival at the queue, you're given a raffle ticket so that you can wander off for a cuppa, have a personal needs break, go to a pre-Prom talk &c. and still retain your place. Disappearing off for several hours isn't the done thing.

Arena or gallery?

Arena - but then I would say that! Different people have different preferences; the gallery isn't for those who don't have a head for heights and isn't the best part of the RAH for smaller-scale concerts (although I note you have selected lots of lovely late Romantic German repertoire biggrin.gif); the arena can be a bit crowded, but is great for being close.

Wherever you end up, don't push in as it upsets the natives wink.gif
JamesK
I just bought the ticket to Prom 34: Heldenleben, unfinished, and Battlefield. biggrin.gif
I'm really excited now and it's a quiet day of the olympics. happy.gif
