I'm sorry to say that until I read his obituary this morning I had no idea just how varied a career he had. Very unfairly criticised particularly by some of my generation, but he must have introduced so many of us to playing the guitar.

I saw him at a Sheffield Uni end of year ball back in the 70s when he was already a bit out of fashion. Just him, his guitar and an amp. He was absolutely brilliant.

Reminds me of when I was about 15 and I went to the Ideal Home Exhibition in London. There was a man there signing his autograph, so my sister and I got him to sign a bit of paper for us. When we told our mum, she said "That's Bert Weedon, a famous guitarist!". We had no idea- he was just a bloke signing his name as far as we were concerned. ohmy.gif

Have listened to lots of his music since then of course.

RIP Bert. xxx
