It's that time of year again.

Applications now open for this year's event which will take place in Stalybridge on Saturday 14th July.
The web site is here.

Please remember that the ONLY way to secure a performing slot is to get your application form and money to me in time. If you want to take part don't delay. Last year I was fully booked two weeks before the closing date and earlier this year katyjay's event was fully subscribed within a month of applications opening.

Feel free to ask any questions either on this thread, by PM or by emailing or phoning (details on the site).

If anyone's interested, I have some rather silly pieces for flute, clarinet and piano. The flute/clarinet parts are roughly Grade 5-6. There are three in the set, though I'd have to check the timing. I'd be happy to do piano, and put it in as my 'slot' if a flautist and clarinettist were interested smile.gif

p.s. I am intending to come ph34r.gif party1.gif

They can take one of the small ensemble slots (I have 4 pencilled in) if you would like to play something else.
katyjay
I'd be up for the flute part of your composition, Seer_Green.

Sbhoa - form will be in the post tomorrow.

I said I wanted to come to this event AGES ago! biggrin.gif

Sooooo a few questions:
1. Do you need accompanists? I have lots of experience with my own pupils and can sightread well up to about Grade 5 standard, 6 on a good day but would prefer I receive pieces beforehand, especially if more difficult than Grade 5 standard, is this possible?

2. Can we play solos on multiple instruments? E.g. one on piano, one on clarinet / saxophone?

3. Any time limit for solos?

4. Anyone need a clarinettist / alto saxophonist or pianist to form an ensemble?

5. Can I tell / invite an adult pupil of mine?

6. Is there a good amount of parking?

I'll know exactly how I'm fixed for accompanists when I have applications in. The plan is that people get their music to accompanists at least 3 weeks before the event and sooner if possible. Thanks for your offer, I have you pencilled in as an accompanist. smile.gif

The time limit is 5 minutes and you can split this between instruments if you like.
QUOTE

4. Anyone need a clarinettist / alto saxophonist or pianist to form an ensemble?

I have some slots reserved for pre arranged small ensembles. Playing in one of these does not mean you've given up your solo slot though some more nervous people prefer to play a duet as their solo slot. As with all slots these will be allocated on a first come first served basis. There will be time for informal ensemble playing during the morning and Ican let you know what instruments we have nearer the time.

5. Can I tell / invite an adult pupil of mine?

Absolutely. This is open to non forum people too. smile.gif

6. Is there a good amount of parking?
smile.gif

Yes.

Thank you so much for answers.

If I have pieces three weeks in advance that would be absolutely fine smile.gif

This has just gave me a load of motivation to get Malcolm Arnold's Fantasy for Clarinet up to standard ... biggrin.gif

Will speak to my pupil on Friday when she comes for a lesson. smile.gif

My technique is to have the information and application form ready printed.
Doesn't work every time but it helps.
Don't forget to tell her not to delay.

Sadly, I can't make this as my choir has a concert that evening and we're hosting people from the French twin town choir - great shame.

Hope this goes well.

Thanks for offering to accompany. Accompanist volunteers are always greatly appreciated.

Sbhoa usually matches up soloists to accompanists just after the closing date - so that she can make as good a match as possible between the demands of the piano parts and the players available, and so that she doesn't overload any of the volunteers.

If you do make private arrangements for accompaniments, please ensure Sbhoa knows about them.

Katyjay is right.
It generally makes life easier if I do most of the matching up accompanists.
Please let me know if you do make private arrangements, I do understand that sometimes people have a strong wish to work with someone in particular.

I've printed my form out and will put it in the post in the next couple of days. No idea what I'm going to play yet though - I'll have a chat with my teacher at my next lesson.

I am also willing to do a reasonably straight forward accompaniament (grade 5 ish). Possible more if they are very easy! smile.gif

OK thanks. I can fit in with most things, but if I get a direct approach from anyone I will let you know.
Sbhoa, you recall you lent me a version (second clari part) of Mozarts Kegelstatt Trio, for two clarinets and piano rather than usual clarinet/viola /piano. Because of illness at Leeds we ended up playing the first movement as flute/clarinet/piano.(Emsoboe/Lois and myself) I wondered if anyone would like to do one of the other movements. The first part can be clarinet or violin or flute and the second part viola or clarinet (and I think cello is possible also).

Don't forget to check on availability of ensemble slots as I have a limited number pencilled in to allow as many solo slots as possible.

I would like to come please - I enjoyed last year very much (even with having, and being, a last minute accompanist! tongue.gif )

I always enjoy ensemble playing, so if anyone is organising something and needs a flautist then I will be happy to join. Please put me down for accompanying again, sbhoa.

Now to print off the form and find the cheque book smile.gif .

EDIT: Done, but missed tonight's post, so will be in the post tomorrow biggrin.gif

OK thanks, do we have another clarinet, so we can do it with 2 claris, or is it too much to expect us to get a violist ? Or Pixie can do second clari part , and top part could be done with a Violinist or flautist. Scores are in ISMLP or if second part is to be clari, Sbhoa has a copy (I think Ive lost mine). It would be easier to do the second movement , but we could have a go at the last movement as well and see if we can manage it.

I'll have a look on ISMLP, smile.gif. I don't mind which part I do smile.gif.

Whilst on the subject of strings - if I could get together 2x violinists, a violist and a cellist, I would love to do Mozart's Clarinet Quintet, not sure it would be right for this event as it's quite long! smile.gif

Will look at 2nd and last mvts smile.gif.

sbhoa - I will get my application and cheque in the post tomorrow, as I've got my big teaching day today! Also will inform adult pupil on friday. Is it strictly no children at all, I do have a wonderful little 10 year old who would probably be delighted to play something?

@f#minor.....you would need to check the timing. Would you be thinking of this as your solo slot or as an extra ensemble?

P*P...... I think the quintet is going to be too much for this even if there were enough players of sufficient standard. Given that I'm hoping to encourage more people who are not so far along in their musical journey this may not happen anyway. Sounds like it could be a good day's fun on it's own if you can find the players. smile.gif
Sorry, this is definitely an Adults only event as far as performing goes. Part of the idea behind it is that early grade adults at least don't feel overshadowed by more advanced youngsters. Other events do have a wider age range and it does work well but the Adult learner concerts aim to encourage some of the less confident with some of the more advanced adults giving them something to aspire to.
fsharpminor
The last movement would definiteley be too long (and piano part is tricky!), the first and second are both 5 and half mins, but some repeats could be omitted - second movement is a Minuet and Trio , with most bits repeated, so it can be made to be less than 5 mins quite easily. If possible I would like to do a solo slot as well as an ensemble, but I could make this only 3-4 mins max. I was thinking of myself as more of an acccompanist for the Kegelstatt.

If you get the takers and I have their forms in while there's still room that's ok.
Do remember that though it's great to have players at all levels my main target group for local advertising is those not quite that far along in their musical journey. The mix can vary from year to year.
