Full Version: Confidence!

Hello everyone!

I have an opinion question that I'd like to ask all of you music-lovers!
I know that it is necessary to build up confidence before you perform so that your tone is nice and strong etc. But how much confidence in yourself is essential and when does it become boasting? I think there is a fine line between the two.

For example, I generally think that I have quite a nice voice and always feel bad because you shouldn't really think those kind of things of yourself. I try to tell myself that my voice is nice, on pitch etc. before a concert so that I will be less nervous. Is that okay, in your opinion(s)?

Reflections etc. are very welcome (indeed asked for).
Cheers,
Charlotte

Sounds perfectly right. Good, and unless you're confident in yourself can you really expect others to like your voice. So love it, cherish it, know that you are good, feel the tingle! Just smile. That's why you'e doing the singing and they, the listening.

Good wishes!

I'm not a singer but I think the same applies for all instruments-your approach sounds fine-there's a world of difference between quietly confident-(ie you know you've put the work in, you can now go out there and enjoy playing/singing, ) and boasting. In fact I think the latter isn't really confidence at all, but lack of it. If you've done the groundwork you should rightly feel confident.

Surely it depends if it's solicited - if you go around saying "I'm the best singer/pianist/clarinettist/woohoo player in my family/class/school/planet", then it's definitely boasting smile.gif

No, I would never do that!

Thanks for your opinions! I'm glad that other people think the same! smile.gif
