My twitter and facebook feeds today have been full of the chock news of the death of trumpeter, singer and jazz warrior Abram Wilson at the age of 39. I've never met him, but I have seen him play on many occasions, and his CDs remain some of the most played in my collection - they are the soundtrack to one "phase" of my life.

Yeah was at a gig today and the trumpet player who had regularly gigged with Abram was saying he'd gone to join the choir invisible. Such a young age to pass on and he never let on about his serious health issues.

How sad, that's a real shock to me. I have all of his CDs and have seen him play.

I didn't know Abram Wilson's music but I attended a couple of workshops given by him at the Music Learning Live conferences, and he was a fabulous teacher and communicator - warm, supportive and a joy to listen to. I heard the new on the radio this morning by chance - so shocked. Sympathies to his family and to all who knew him. What a loss.

I had the priv of meeting him on several occasions and admired his trumpet playing immensly. He was also a great educator with young people, initiating the "teenie warriors", a branch of the "Tommorow Warriors" for younger jazz students. His last gig at Ronnie Scotts in May was tremendous and there was absolutely no inkling of his illness. He also gave my daughter several masterclasses and she is devastated at his death. He made the UK his home for 10 years and was married for all of 24 hours and our condolences go out to his family. A great loss to the Jazz world.

This somehow passed me by and I was quite shocked and saddened when I learned about it.

I met him at a workshop some of my pupils were attending and he was a lovely, friendly chap.

Such a shame and only a little bit older than me which is sobering.
