DS is working on G4 pieces. And would like to go for the young pianist course.

Anyone has any experience on this? A teacher you would like to recommend? Thanks,
lorraineliyanage
The teachers vary depending on which week you choose... I have seen Kathryn Page adjudicate a festival and I thought she was brilliant with the intermediate students.

Kathryn is indeed a fantastic teacher, but as she's the course administrator she doesn't usually do individual pupils now, although she does take some of the adult amateur sessions. I don't think you get a choice of teachers for the young pianists course - they usually have someone assigned to the course (whom I'm sure will be very good.) You need to get on with it if you want to enrol - the closing date is 30 June, but it's often sold out before then, so you will be lucky to get a place. The summer school is certainly a fantastic experience - quite a few of us are regulars!

boysmum, I have just read this on my phone and logged on to my computer to answer but I see in the meantime bevpiano has beaten me to it.

Kathyrn Page is indeed wonderful but your son, if he is lucky enough to find there is a place still available, will not sadly be assigned to her for the reasons bevpiano has already given.

Chet's is indeed piano heaven and a fantasic experience for all ages. I would strongly recommend you ring Kathryn Page today to see if there are any places still available: I know one or two people who have applied at an earlier stage than yourself who have been disappointed.

lorraineliyanage, bevpiano and PianoNotes, Many thanks for your suggestions. I have already submitted the application form. And hopefully this will be a great experience for my son.

Is this piano course filled with gifted musicians? Is it worth sending a child who has not been playing long and is around grade 3/4 level or should I wait until he is more advanced?

I sat in a couple of the youngster's workshops last time I was there and there were varying levels.
I think that the more advanced players would not be on the junior course.
The main piano course I think has a minimum suggested level of grade 6?
If you ring Kathryn Page she will answer any questions you have.

From the website:

Young Pianists? Course
Introduced two years ago, this course is aimed at the younger pianist, of grade 5 or below. Regular workshops with other young pianists of a similar ability covering issues such as scales, sight reading, technical studies and aural will be scheduled. In addition to three hours of one-to-one tuition,
there will be opportunities to play in student recitals. Shorter courses are available for less experienced but
enthusiastic pianists. Please contact the administrator for further details.

Thanks for this. I'll probably leave it as my son will probably feel self conscience if he's surrounded by a lot of talent.

Only you can judge that. There is certainly lots of talent there, but it is also a very supportive environment.

One option would be to enrol him for one or two days only.
If that works out ok you could look at the full course the following year.
