I've just seen this on the BBC site - wonder whether anyone else is likely to affected by it...

outrageous! Googling for a new account provider.

Hsbc offer 18months free then you can ask to be transfered to something else thats free (it says for life) otherwise it and rbs charge around 3 pounds a month. Half the price of Santander.

As for using personal accounts, Lloyds did not like this when they realised and gave me a hard time whenever I went in.

Probably depends on the branch.

I have 2 private current accounts with Lloyds and use one exclusively for business - they never said a word in all the years I've been their customer.

Ditto the Co-op. They keep asking me to make an appointment for an 'account review', though, at which they'd probably go for the hard sell!

Ditto NatWest who actively encouraged me to only have a normal personal account.

For some reason, the Co-op try to get people to have as many accounts as possible. They 'upgraded' my account to include a separate savings one, which I've never touched. I accomanied a friend to an 'account review', where they created another account, suggesting that she pay her salary into that one and move routine direct debits to it, and then transfer money to her 'normal' account when she needed it. They failed to explain how this made things easier for someone who already had the direct debits set up for the day after payday...

No doubt, if I ever succumb to their "Have you had an account review recently?" blather then they'll go for the hard sell with a business account. I'm just grateful they don't tempt me with the honest response to their more common "When is your car insurance due for renewal?"...

Don't bother with any sort of account review - complete waste of time. All they're for is to try and sell you paid-for accounts! I went once and they tried to change my ISA to one which paid less interest ohmy.gif

Sounds like someone's being paid bonuses/measured based on number of accounts opened...

Lloyds TSB are bombarding me with messages asking me to call.

I haven't and have no intention of doing so!

Barclays are ok with me using my personal account, they wanted to charge me so I threatened to move all my accounts and they were fine again.

HSBC occasionally suggested that I needed a separate business account until I told them that with less than ?2000 a year going in it really wasn't worth it.
