Elgarfan
Hi everyone,

I have just bought myself a new flute having wanted to learn the instrument for years. Now the problem is I cant find a teacher, I live in Tunbridge Wells. All the internet ads, and window postcards are either dead links of disconnected phone numbers! I dont feel I can get very far with just me and my tune a day book!

Any local knowledge would be great. Oh I did find one teacher who was so far out my price range it was incredible, I dont think even James Galway would charge that much for lessons biggrin.gif

Thanks for any help.

Could you contact a local school - an independent school is probably more likely to be useful (this *shouldn't* be the case in an ideal world..!) - and ask to speak to the head of music? He or she might be able to give you the details of their peripatetic flute teacher. Alternatively, ask any teacher friends or parents if they could ask the head of music at their schools.

Thanks for that Ellie. Thats a good idea I will give it a try. A friend works in a music shop nearby and is also looking for me but I was hoping to get a recomendation or two so I know how good a teacher someone is. At this stage I am prepared to give almost anyone a try!! biggrin.gif
Norway
Hi ElgarFan (So am I!) There will definitely be several flute teachers in your area - Ellie's suggestion of contacting schools should work. definitely get a personal recommendation as there are horses for courses - good luck! smile.gif

Thanks Norway. I have found someone to ask now and hopefully he can guide me on the best route. Glad you are also an Elgar fan biggrin.gif

You could also try skype lessons until you find somebody who could teach you in person.
