Full Version: Grade 8 Sax Chromatic Scale Patterns

Hi Folks!

Does anyone know how the Grade 8 sax chromatic scale patterns go please? We think we are OK with the 2 8ve ones and do these as three groups of four quavers per octave, but we don't know the pattern for the 12th ones and the 2 and a half octaves one. There doesn't seem to be an example in the syllabus. Hope you can help and save me buying the scale book! smile.gif

My son says you don't need to group them, you just go straight up and down

Thanks very much! smile.gif

Had a chat to syllabus enquiries at the ABRSM about this and you play all the notes in 4s (but unaccentuated) as quavers, until you get to the end when there are 3 spare notes left - just play these and make the last note a crotchet. This works for 12th chromatics and 2 and a half octave chromatics. (These patterns aren't shown in the ABRSM scale and arpegs bk). Sorted! smile.gif

I was pretty sure sax like other winds was straight up and down. I don't think daughter has ever done anything else unsure.gif .

That's basically it - with just a longer last note. Some instruments and grades have some variation (eg grade 2 descant recorder arpeggios) so I like to look up the scales if possible.

I was under the impression that you played the last note twice....it's been a while though since I looked at these!

That's for arpeggios that go over a 12th.
