Does anyone have a favourite tutor book for boys in the 10/11 year age group?
I find this quite a difficult stage to start boys at because I feel the books which move at a good pace
(in general) for this age seem young in presentation-too many pictures a boy of that age is past appreciating.
On the other hand the pace of a book for an older/teenage beginner can tend to be just be a bit too fast for them.

Any help welcome!

What instrument are you thinking about?

Oops, sorry- forgot to say for piano!

Accelerated Piano Adventures.

Ditto, accelerated piano adventures alongside the accelerated technique and artistry book or other PA level 1 repertoire books if he needs to slow down or consolidate.

Accelerated Piano Adventures.

agree.gif I've found it woks well with boys of this age group.

There are also the Performance and Gold Star Performance in the Piano Adventure series which provide additional pieces and they are quite easy and some are quite "showy". The Gold Star ones come with CD backing track which I haven't yet used but which seem fun.)

agree.gif Whatever book you use, he'll never like every bit of it, but I think PA is a good compromise.

Microjazz For Beginners or Microjazz For Absolute Beginners may work as well. So could Piano Time depending how agreeable he is to the layout. Carol Barrat moves a bit quickly but if he is a fast learner it is an option.

Yes I've tried Microjazz for Absolute Beginners and the follow on book with a 12 year old who wasn't ready for an 'adult' tutor as such and he did well with it. Will probably try the Accelerated Piano Adventures next time I think. I've increasingly gone off Piano Time 1 with just about everyone over the years.

Thanks, will have a look at the books suggested! smile.gif
