Segovia Style
Please note that it's an NTSC disk, so you'd need a multi-system DVD player to view it.
The blurb says something about "all levels" and "aspiring players", but don't be fooled! This is a very fine DVD, but you need to know some theory (quite a bit, actually, if you really want to benefit from discussions on arpeggios and figured bass), and although I'm not really aware of how grade levels for ABRSM are pitched, a quick look at the syllabus suggests that you'd want to be Grade 3 level or possibly considerably higher to really benefit (not such a problem if you already have a strong musical background in another instrument).
No instructions here on how to hold the guitar etc - for intermediate players and above. If you want something that will open new vistas in interpreting harmony and the sound you want from your guitar...and aso bring theory studies alive...then you'll gain a lot from it.
Also don't be fooled by the stiff narration at the beginning - Fisk quickly relaxes when he gets down to business, though he uses a lot of technical musical terms.
The DVD includes sheet music for all the pieces discussed, including ornamentation etc. Pieces included: Albert Roussel "Segovia" Allegro non Troppo, Bach "Prelude" BWV999 D minor, in lots of detail, 3 Segovia folksongs (Eslovania, Bretona, Escocesa), Segovia Estudio Sin Luz for Jose Rubio, Haydn Minuet from Quartet in G Major, Opp. 76 No. 1, Ponce Prelude in E.
