I play Cornet in a brass band and i have a problem, as my third valve finger doesn't seem to go as well as the other two.
Normally this doesn't cause a problem but in one piece of music i have to play from a bottom B to a bottom D and my third finger cannot keep up and i end up playing some very srange notes indeed!!

Is there anything that I can do about this and any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks
jaime
hello!

i think everybody finds that their 3rd finger is the weakest and often slower to respond than others. that's just because we dont use it as much as others.

i wouldn't stress about it. just enjoy what your doin and in time it should get stronger. dont let it dishearten you. it's just one of the many things that get in the way.

seriously though. i think there are some finger exercises in the arban. but i'll get back to you with some page numbers and stuff.

good luck!

Hi Jaime
Thanks for your advice. I've been playing for about 6 years now but I have recently moved from a 4th section band to a 2nd section band which is more challenging.

I don't play cornet so i dont play in brass bands that often. however i have played with a brass band and the music is very challenging. just stick to it. i think brass bands are very nice, but i play in a jazz band and prefer jazz. not really for cornets. lol

i haven't found my arban out yet so watch this space!
