My flute case decided not to work about 5 years ago. I was walking along and suddenly the clasp came un-done and my flute was in bits on the pavement! Luckily it wasnt too badly damaged and I'm still playing it today.

One of the screws on my violin case has fallen off somewhere, so I now carry it around in the hope that it wasn't too important in keeping my violin case together!

ug my flute case was awful (one of the tyical black boosey and hwaks ones with the HUGE clasp). Last year it decided to trap my flute inside it! I couldnt get it out for a couple of days - which doesnt seem that long, but I was trying to open it for those few days! I now have a nice new case with a zip, so cant go as badly wrong!

Perseverance? You mean the fact that me and Nat both stopped playing violin?
saxlover

if thats what u mean, then it was because i failed grade 4 and was then given grade 5 stuff to do and at the time i liked clarinet better and had just started it alongside piano
Keys
Feb 19 2005, 07:21 PM
Yes, it seems a shame that you stopped playing although you probably took up other instruments.
Actually, maybe it made sense to stop and play something that sounded good.

not that my clarinet playing was any bettr, i was just being made to do things i didnt want with violin and oi wasnt with clarinet. clarine twas much more intersting coz id just started it

I have noticed that this topic started off about literally dropping instruments, then to dropping instruments as in giving up.
Just in case anyone wanted to know...
Helen
Feb 19 2005, 07:25 PM
Well for me it was the fact I had so much to do, my 'to-do' pile of work was increasing so much, and I was expected to progress on flute, piano, theory, college work, and still take an active part with the running of a brownie unit, a guide unit and still take part in ranger activities.
I dont think so somehow.

yes - you have to really really want to play, it's so difficult to really sound nice when you start - especially if you're 7! lol... but perseverance does pay off, if you are good it sounds amazing! (wish I could class myself in that category...)

Umm dropping instruments...
Couple years back, the footjoint on my flute kept falling off. (i think it fell off in an exam!!)
Well, last year my flute case broke and my flute went flying accross teh main corridor at the high school. About 50 people stood on it. The head joint oval by the end... (thankfully it was fixed)
When I first got my bassoon, my mum dropped it and it now has a couple of dents and scratches. My was then banned from touching the bassoon.
TODAY, my Dad was holding my bassoon and fell down the kirb and dropped the bassoon (in the case). Now, both my parents are banned from touching the bassoon.

I remember a time when this boy in my orchestra kept tipping his chair backwards until he AND his violin fell! The violin was broken and it was the day before an important concert so he had to buy a new violin straight away. Don't think his parents or our conductor were best pleased though...

Flutes seem to be particularly fragile, and this coming lossed footjoint thing seems to be a recurring problem, I never did manage to get it fixed on my old flute.
And unfortunetly, the catches on that same flutes case were broken on my first day of having it, which meant that when the elastic band broke, it repeatedly fell out on concreate etc.
One day, I will sped a lot of money getting that poor instrument completely restored. The guy that keep my instruments serviced for me said he would like to spend several weeks on it, I think he loved it even more than I did!

I'm glad to say I've never dropped my violin (it's 300 years old and has been in the family almost that long, so it would be a disaster!) but I have dropped my bow once or twice, and am always dropping rosin which DOES make a mess!
