Full Version: The End Of An Era

I just found out recently that the Exam centre for Colwyn Bay (North Wales) has changed to Hebron Chapel, Old Colwyn. To put this in to perspective, the Exams have been held in the Rydal Music rooms for as far back as I can remember. I did my Piano Grades there from 8 years old and thats going back nearly 32 years. The only reason I have heard for the change is that Rydal no longer wish to hold the Exams there. sad.gif
Sadly, this is the end of an era for me and I'm sure many other people.
Can anyone throw further light on the reasons/circumstances around the change?

whoops..I posted this in the Viva Violin section instead of general discussions.... sad.gif oh well, it relates to violin players as well.

The place where I did all my piano exams (when I wasnt doing Guildhall exams up London) has just been sold ! It's very sad.. I used to remember a giant dog that they had, every time I was going there and it made me a little calmer! smile.gif

Did it have 3 heads and go to sleep when someone played the Harp? I think I know that centre. Isn't it called HogWarts or something? laugh.gif

Seriously though Joy, it is sad when a place that you have known all your life changes or gets demolished (unless its the local tax office!) laugh.gif
They called it progress but sometimes I think regress would be more appropriate. sad.gif

No it's not Harry Potter.. I was being serious smile.gif

Anyway.. got your violin recording.. not bad! However keep working on a lower level of pieces (like you said to me! tongue.gif) and you'll get there.. just never give up. I find I have really bad days sometimes like today it was horrible getting started... couldnt warm up properly. However everyone has bad days.

Joy, I get days when I just cant get a decent sound out of the violin and then others it sings sweetly. Its weird! On the piano I know what sound is going to come out to a point but with a violin there are so many more variables aren't there?

That's a shame, when they've been held there for so many years. I've no idea why. (One of the school buildings, near Rhos front, was demolished or something wasn't it - don't suppose the music rooms were in that building though?).

Carys, no the music rooms are next to the Rydal swimming pool by the actual school itself, nowhere near the prom. I'm assuming you live in the area too. Where did you do your exams? In another centre?

Hi, no I didn't take any exams when I was living there, as I wasn't actively learning an instrument at the time. My parents still live in the area.
