Can anyone help me with a technical question to do with scales (on the piano) and speed (grade 7).

Whilst my legato scales are played above the minimum speed of 80 I can't seem to get the same speed with staccato.
I find that it is really hurting my forearms (outside of forearms) and can just about manage a speed of 72 but left hand (I'm right-handed) is sometimes uneven and jerky in places.

Can anybody advise? Since my arms hurt I must be doing *something* wrong!!!

Right!

Self-preservation skills Rule 1: If it hurts, STOP!

I hope others with piano teaching skills will offer more constructive help. If there's an Alexander-trained piano teacher in your area they are a strong candidate to be able to help.

Good luck!
