Hi!

Has anyone played this piece? I am doing my grade 7 piano at the moment and as a sideline I am doing this Michael Nyman piece. I think it is quite hard although not impossible for someone of my standard. Has anyone else had a go at it? It is my all-time favourite piece and I am determined to have it in my repertoire to be able to just play it whenever I wish. I am just wondering how others have got on with it.

I tried playing this piece when I was about Grade 3, with not a great result, as you can imagine! I didn't really bring out the melody enough in amongst all the other moving semiquavers. I haven't really played it since then - I guess I played it to death then got tired of it. It's the kind of thing that probably sounds harder to play than it actually is, as the music follows a similiar sort of pattern and the hands don't move about too much.
Have you played any other music from the film? I have a book with about 6 pieces. One called 'Big My Secret' is also very nice to play.

do you think its possible for me to play? im doing grade 6

It's fantastic music and I have also bought the music ...Holly Hunter actually plays the piano pieces in the film.......how brilliant
I have tried but it's impossible for me at the moment....

PS Natalie you should be able to do this....grade6......have you seen the film...the Piano.....a nasty bit in the middle with an axe....
Its also played on classic fm tv by Michael Nyman the composer and also by
Mylene Klass.....In her version she crosses her hands......Michael Nyman Doesn't........It's a piece that's almost as good as Le Onde.
