I'm having real trouble learning this. I've simplified my piece, but I think it's taking me so long because I haven't got a piano teacher, and simply coz it's SO HUGE!

Anyone played it before? Any hints, tips?

Cheers, matey...arrrr....

Hehe, we're going to perform it. jonscott14 on ye trumpet, Miles (not on the forum, but has beasty hair) on guitar, and Joel, commonly known as Mole, playing drums.....
Rainbow
I'm singing it in a choir.
freda_bloogs
Yep I can play a few versions because I'm that sad. It's very similar in some parts, it's the same chord sequences with different melodies. I love it, play it most days....from memory biggrin.gif

I'd try to do your own arrangement of it because a lot of them around are pants.

Who made the Bohemian Rhapsody??? I've heard of it but haven't even listened to it.

I've played through "Bohemian Rhapsody" for a pupil a few times. Once, he played the drums while I played the piano part, we recorded it on one track of a multi-track recorder and then had a real laugh both singing it through. We sounded hilarious trying to hit the high notes in the "Galileo" harmonisation section. We are both bass singers after all but we had great fun and the final recording was a hoot! Incidentally, this was a bit of light relief from his preparation for Grade 8 piano. smile.gif
I wonder where Freddy Mercury would have gone with his music if he hadn't tragically died so young. On the evidence of "Barcelona" he may have turned more and more to composing Classically orientated music. Its a real shame we never got to see him develop further as a composer. He did leave us with some great rock music though, thats for sure.

Yes it is a real shame about Freddie Mercury. Not only was he very talented he also had a fantastic voice.

I remember some years ago a tribute concert in which other rock stars were covering his songs. Many couldn`t sing them in the original keys.I think George Michael is the only guy (as well as being gorgeous...isn`t it a shame,Gae?!)who can possibly match his vocal range.

DGA...I cannot believe you haven`t listened it!!!! It was No1 in 1975 for weeks and weeks and it just endures.

Queen made some really great albums....A Day at the Races and A Night at the Opera are worth listening too as an intro to them.

I also love the video to "I want to break free". Who can forget Roger Taylor dressed up as a schoolgirl?....lol...and then there was that video...name of song escaped me...where Freddie does a tribute to La Sacre....or is it the same vid?

Queen do have some of the best piano parts in rock music. For Bohemian Rhapsody, we are doing it in our band but I play the guitar for it so I can't help.

Where did you get the scores from? I'm interested in them.
Fred
Hi,

I've played Bohemian Rhapsody many times (piano arrangement from the Queens Greatest Hits book). The hardest parts are not the verses, but the parts where the piano has to imitate an electric guitar in those long fiddly runs (assuming you are doing a piano only arrangement, and don't have an electric guitarist doing those for you...?). All I can suggest is find the impossible bits and go over it slowly, writing in and (eventually) memorizing the fingering, until it gets easier.

It's a lovely piece and great fun to play. You can hear the drums in your mind and headbang along as you play, happily destroying many healthy braincells.

Have fun! biggrin.gif

PS Love I Want to Break Free video, but think I prefer I'm Going Slightly Mad - never can look at a penguin now, without seeing Brian May!

I can either send you mine (when I've done it) or you can go to

http://www.freepianosheets.com/

and you can look at it there....but you'll need the scorch plug-in...

My version's easier than that, btw...

No, we have an electric guitar.... so luckily i don't have to fill those bits in....the only bit that doesn't quite work is the "Galileo"s where one is done on the trumpet (lead melody) and the other is on the piano...

We have no lead singer.....anybody fancy doing it, lol?
Fred
Oops, I didn't read your original post very well, sorry! Regarding a singer - won't your audience fill the role for you? laugh.gif
Oddball
Hehe, probably...
freda_bloogs
Wow I wish I'd've had an arrangement like that when I was learning it, I had to figure all that out by ear. Some of it is wrong though, I'm pretty sure having heard the backing track on Queen Greatest Hits 1 Bonus DVD (I'm so sad I know).

Anyone going to see their upcoming tour?

K Thanks Oddball.

I can play most of it, but at the moment i am having trouble with the "Bismilah" bit which is really difficult to get your hands around!

Good luck...I am sure it will come with practice!
