Hey everyone
What are you all playing at the moment?
I'm doing the Carcassi studies (again!), some lovely Tarrega and working on some duests - Granados Spanish Dances and some Dowland pieces for lutes.
Also, is anyone a member of a classical guitar society?

Pepita - Tarrega (Grade 6 piece) to get it up to speed.
Cavatina - Stanley Myers, because everyone knows it and it is good to have in the rep.
Bach's Prelude (BWV999) Got the DVD that Eliot Fisk plays it on and I liked the sound of it. It does have a couple of long stretches in it though. Well..... they are long stretches for me at least.

Yeah, I've been doing the Pepita too, never sure how fast to play Tarrega, must get hold of some recordings.
Would you reccommend the Elliot Fisk - I've seen it around but haven't spoken to anyone who has seen it.

There is a thread underneath this one about the Eliot Fisk DVD, but yes, I would recommend it for you. It just isn't really suitable for a novice.
There is a CD about that contains only Tarrega compositions but I can't remember what it is called. I know it is an import and costs around £25

.
I do know Pepita is on it.
If I can find it, I will post a link.

Right now I'm doing some Carulli Etudes, and Scott Joplin's The Entertainer. Then, next I'm doing Maria Luisa by Sagreras.
Just for myself I like playing Cat Stevens...

Also, Tarrega CD is available through the Spanish guitar centre, but is out of stock at the moment.
Thanks for your help Fletch! Do you teach by any chance?

No, I don't consider myself as a suitable candidate to be teaching.
I feel, I have at the moment, more questions than answers. When I turn the situation in the other direction, I may well consider it.
After all, they do say you never really start to learn, until you start to teach.

I couldn't agree more, although I haven't been teaching long and I do only teach beginners, I've found it incredibly rewarding as my own opinions and thoughts about the instrument have become more focused as a result. I'm currently working on improving my own playing to a higher standard to enable me to teach at a higher standard as I do enjoy teaching beginners, but I'd love to be able to help a more advanced player to develop.
Thanks for all your help though Fletch - much appreciated!

Hi
The David Russell CD with Tarrega on it finally arrived and I listened to Pepita last night. I can see why you we're trying to get it up to speed Fletch!!
This performance really moves with a swing - very different to the slow pace I've been practicing it in. I really love the contrast between the first two sections and the third section, the softer tone is absolutely exquisite in the third.
I can't believe how many recording there are on the CD, an amazing achievement by Mr Russell.

I don't think Pepita sounds that bad played andante!
It holds up well at that sort of pace, you just got to get the thing to sound accomplished,,,,,, I think?
