HI guitarists!
I'm looking for a book to move my son forward.
He's comfortable with most notes upto 4th/5th fret, has been having lessons for about a year, so far has only really played one note at a time, occasionally adding in a Bass E or G.
He loves things like Harry Potter
I'm looking for fun, easy pieces - maybe pop songs/TV theme tunes???
Thanks in anticipation !!

You could try, The Guitarists Way by Nuttall & Whitworth he could probably start with book 2 (there are 4 books in total). This series uses lots of recognisable songs (christmas carols, childrens songs - with single line melody and also songs incorporating bass notes) It also has songs with simple accompaniments for playing with a teacher or another pupil.
There is also Enjoy Playing the Guitar by Debbie Cracknell (books 1 & 2) - similar set up to Guitarists way, but develops technical side a bit further and includes a slightly broader range of styles - good use of solo pieces and duets.
I use both of these series for teaching children aged 7 upwards and find them really useful. They definitely need to be used with the help of a teacher and I wouldn't advise choosing them unless your sons teacher if happy to use them.
Sorry just read the rest of your message - didn't see the bit about TV themes etc, I haven't found a book like that - I tend to transcribe pop songs & TV themes myself. Maybe you could mention this to his teacher.
Good luck!
