Hey Dudes!
What do you think about having to do theory Gr. 5 before you can do the practical Gr. 6 ??? blink.gif
I must admit that Mr. Eric Taylor has done a great job in compiling his theory workbooks, but do we really have to have crotchets and quavers and chromatic scales forced down our throughts? huh.gif

Dear Sam,

I must admit that I quite enjoyed doing grade 5 theory. I think it is important to know a bit of theory whilst moving up the piano grades as it helps overall. I studied hard for the exam and although I changed some of my answers in the exam that I wasn't sure about, I still got 100% marks which I was really pleased with. The grade 5 theory exam really isn't that hard if you start prepaing well before the exam and go over past exam papers which there are plenty of. I wish you luck!

Hello,

It is very boring ( well for me ) the thoery in my point of view. but if you think at it as if i can pass imgaine all the things i can acieve towards, eg. Grade 6+ it is good. and in my opinion it is handy to know about the some of the things in a thoery that you shouldn't really forget. my teacher still tests me now and then so i won't really forget.

If you are really bored of thoery then you could always take up another instrument or something.. i did i took up the gituar and plays it i stopped after grade 6 because my parents didn't think i put enough effort in it. i also wanted to start a clairnet but they didn't think that i'd play that all the time.

hope that helps biggrin.gif

You could always do the Practical Musicianship exam instead! I quite liked the theory exams - once I got started on them.

If you are playing at grade 6 level with any interest in what you are doing then grade 5 theory should be mostly a formality. To be playing at that level with poor theoretical knowledge suggests either a teacher or student who really can't be bothered.

Besides there are 2 alternatives to the theory requirement..grade 5 practical musicianship or jazz.

I really enjoy theory and the intervals are better the more you try them. The chords are quite hard to work out though. smile.gif

i just love intervals, though i used to be hopeless at them!

same here. (I would suggest another club but I know youve already got 3) I find the chords quite easy. then again your probably doing harder work than me Joyjoy

I think everyone is working to their level so will find things hard until they look back on the earlier grades and think oh I can do that after all with ease now! smile.gif
