Hurrah. My diploma results arrived today. Although it was a nasty little brown envelope and I thought the worst I have passed! I am now officially an FRSM in teaching (piano). I can't believe it. I was so miserable after the exam as I really mucked up my Brahms rhapsody. I had been trying not to think about it as I was so sure I had failed. I am really thrilled that all my hard work in preparing for this diploma paid off.

Good luck to anyone else out there waiting for results. biggrin.gif

Well done Margaret! tongue.gif

I am considering doing a DipABRSM, I am a piano teacher and would do the teaching diploma but feel that if I better myself as a player I will learn new things and still pass on a better quality of teaching to my students.

What mark did you get?

Congratulations Margaret. No doubt you have worked very hard and deserve your success.

I am taking grade 6 theory next week so that I will have all the necessary prequisites to enter for the Dip in the summer (assuming that I pass!). I still feel uncertain about entering as so many people talk about failure and retakes but I will only find out where I am at if I go for it.

Well done again! (BTW -what's next? laugh.gif )

Do they send you your certificate later or something? I thought the certificates came along with the results for the successful candidates.

I just wanted to say thank you for all my lovely messages. It makes me feel warm all over.
Jo. Clarinet - apparently they are handwritten by a calligrapher(!) hence the delay
J R Bailey - lots of luck with your grade 6. If I can help in any way with the Dip let me know
Frumpy Babes - Hi there. My children wouldn't agree with you. I lose all my endless patience and sweetness as soon as they sit on the piano stool.
Joy Joy - I just missed a distinction for my submission. A high pass for the viva and a absolute scrape with my sightreading.
Thanks again for your messages of support.

Margaret, you probably won't remember me, but you sent me a very helpful message when I was about to take my LRSM Viva (last summer). I'm thrilled that you got your FR, that's brilliant! I remember you said you were going for it. Although I just missed my LR last year, I've just got it today... so I'm celebrating, and hope you are too! Well done! smile.gif

Hi HOT ROSIN
I tried to send you a private message but apparently your inbox is biggrin.gif Full! MANY CONGRATULATIONS on passing your LR. You must be so thrilled. What will you do now? Any plans for the FRSM. If so do let me know if I can help in any way.

Hi Margaret,

Ah, THAT's the problem! I was wondering why my messages weren't sending. Thanks for the tip-off - I'll sort it out. I don't have plans for the FR for a VERY long time (although my father is planning my entry as we speak)... the LR took me two years and £3k of preparation, not to mention two vivas... not anxious to go through it all again! I bet the FR was even worse! Was this your first time?

Congratulations.

Accompany those of us around here who feel they probably ought to do a DipABRSM but haven't quite got round to it, removing the "I'd do it if only I had an accompanist" excuse. rolleyes.gif

Many congratulations on passing your FRSM Teaching diploma. What was written submission about?
margaret
Hi enthnomusicologist, thanks for your congratualtions. My submission had the lofty title of: "the Learning Potential of the 48 Preludes and Fugues" and was 11,998 words of hard work. To anyone out there thinking of taking the FRSM my advice would be make sure you chose a subject you are really interested in and feel will benefit your teaching in some way. They want to see research + passion! (Actually I love Bach's P and F and I feel I can now teach them better and am more informed). It took me a while to get my topic accepted as my first thoughts were too broad. It needs to be a subject that can be written about in some depth.
