Hm, I've got my first theory exam this afternoon, and I wonder what I should take. Pens, pencils, sharpener and eraser, okay. What about rough paper? Should I do my composition in pencil and go over it in pen afterwards? Do I sound like I'm panicking? Help! I'm so prepared for this exam I've practically got musical terms written on my eyeballs - but I forgot about the practical side of what to take! Please advise me smile.gif .

Thanks in advance,

Don't panic! I took pencils (pop up kind, otherwise take a sharpener), rubber, ruler. Think I also took polos on my pocket! I didn't bother with a pen at all - did everything in pencil.

They'll give you rough paper.

GOOD LUCK!

I always tell my pupils to take two pencils and two rubbers - JUST in case a pencil or rubber falls off the desk and can't be retrieved easily during the exam! Sharpener in case they break both pencils (!) and, of course, sticky label. biggrin.gif

Good luck to everyone taking their theory exams today!

Don't need a pen really.
I always worked theory papers in pencil.
Fred
Thanks for all the advice and good wishes! I'm off shortly, with my three pencils, eraser, pencil sharpener, sticky label, et al. I daresay there'll be a post-mortem later. Good luck to all those doing theory today!

Oooh I hope it all goes well for you. Use all the maximum time you have, don't go if you think you've finished, check your paper over and over!

Hope everyone did well!!! You all sounded well prepared! smile.gif

Whew, it's over. I finished the paper in an hour, spent half an hour checking it over, and the final half hour rubbing things out and re-writing them neater rolleyes.gif .

There were a lot of instrument-specific questions, which was a bit worrying at the time. I mean, who plays all the strings, woodwind, brass and sings in all voices? So, I checked all the ones I could remember when I got home, and so far I only seem to have gone wrong on the lowest woodwind instrument (I put bassoon, but it turns out there's a double-bassoon blink.gif ). Barring stupid mistakes and a lousy composition, I should have done okay ( unsure.gif ).

How'd other theorists do?

Well done, Fred! smile.gif

They usually seem to want standard orchestral instruments, so I would have thought your bassoon was OK.

Sorry I didn't get to wish you luck before you went, but sounds like you managed OK without. Now it's just the long(ish) wait for the results... blink.gif
Fred
Thanks, Andante smile.gif . I'm hoping for at least one mark out of the two for that question.

The 6 week wait will be long, but nothing compared to those waiting for diploma results. I hope reading the results of this last session has renewed your determination to do the LRSM this year! (or at least not put you off wink.gif )

If only I had time to practise sad.gif

I've spent most of this week trying to learn an accompaniment for a pupil of mine who's playing in a festival on Sunday. We can't find anyone else to do it, so it looks like it's down to me. ph34r.gif
