in the version I have of number one, there are times when the RH does the "top" note of the accompaniment (does that make sense? the note you jump to after the chord) but generally yep, the tune is played in the right hand - for that one, at least!

right, just got copy out, to explain it better!

bar 5 LH plays a G, then the RH has written a B, D, F# and high F#. so what im tryin to ask is does the LH play the G thne jump up to play B, D and F# while the Rh just plays F#

so complicated trying to explain!! laugh.gif rolleyes.gif

What a coincidence as I was just having a go at these on the violin today. I recorded the accompaniment part and played the melody on the violin. Did I say "played"? I meant attempted of course! biggrin.gif

Yes, thats right. The L.H. plays the accompaniment part and the R.H. the melody. The first 4 bar intro can be played between both hands though just to make it a bit easier at the start.

I've played the 3 Gymnopedies lots of times and I play all of the melody with the Right Hand but there are a couple of places where the chords are too large for the left hand alone. In these instances I play the top note/notes gently with the R.H. carefully trying to keep the melody line still singing above this accompaniment. It takes a bit of practice and your technique needs to be good. The thumb naturally wants to play louder while the little finger always needs about twice as much pressure just to keep at the same volume as the other fingers.
Good Luck

P.S.
The 3 Gnossiennes are nice too.

thanks, i have been wondering about this too

The first gnosienne (I think) is technically only about grade 4 standard though there is a lot to it. I learnt it over the summer but didn't do it justice!
