hey folks:
just want to know apart from the piano, how many instruments do you play??Please list after the vote.(only offical ones please, singing counts as one,the instrument only counts if you get at least Grade 3 pass level or you have learnt it for at least 3 years.Be honest please!!)
mine's
1.Piano
2.Violin
3.Viola
4.Flute
5.Harmonica
6.recorder
7.Singing-barbershop/chorus
8.guiter
9.drums
That counts as 9 instruments.
Ummm.....I don't know if you're honest, either!
I just play cello besides piano. But I can play recorder, I have played it in school because they make us do that, and I've played it for 4 years then.

Ooops. I voterd at 2 before I read the "grade 3 pass" thing. But other than piano I also play flute (grade 6), and violin (grade 4) but piano is around grade 3 but havent actually taken an exam...

The flute, I did Grade 7 a couple of days ago, but when I played I also could do the keyboard to around Grade 4 standard, and had played it for 4 years. I stopped playing it about 2 years ago. I don't think it is the number of instruments which is important, but whether you enjoy playing them. Also maybe quality over quantity?

Technically only clarinet after piano, if you're counting more than 3 years and grade 3 pass etc
But I started playing flute 1 year and a half ago, and don't intend to take any exams, coz I just want to enjoy playing it!
I've sang in the school choir/productions/competitions for 7 years! But I haven't done exams or lessons, so I wouldn't really count it as an instrument even if it does match your criteria!

I play piano, flute, guitar and organ. I can play bass but I play on it at my friends but it's quite simple because the strings are the same as the bottom four strings on a guitar. Can kind of do recorder and little bits and bobs. My main instruments are piano, flute and guitar. I don't want to do many or I might not excell aswell.

Apart from the piano, I can play the recorder. I'm not sure whether that counts since I've never taken any graded exams before...I learnt it in school for about 4 years. =) Well, I voted for the first one anyway.

True...
the problem with me is i play too much instruments and don't have time to practise them all in a day...
Therefore i only often practise the ones that i like the most.
E.g. the piano ,violin.(although i 'n forced to practise the viola because of our Chamber Orchestra...)

Well the Viola da gamba has six strings (not always though) and is held between your legs, hence "Da Gamba", it was popular mainly during Renaissance and Baroque, but after Bach nobody really wrote for anythhng for it. You hold the bow very different from Cello and Viola. It very resonant and had a very unique sound, I love it.

erm. . .no. I bought my Viola da Gamba from a dealer in London. You can also buy from a huge range in The Early Music Shop in London and Bradford, that is a fantastic store. My one is Czech made but I know that there are still very good Finnish one still being produced.
You probably just don't have a very alive early music scene where you live. I play in a Viol consort and often we accompany singers from around Scotland which is so much fun.
And please stop saying extincted it's extinct.
