Hi everyone

I did grade 6 piano in December and got 131. I am now choosing pieces from the new grade 7 syllabus. Which ones are the best. I have just had a lesson, and we will probably take Mozart from list A (see my signature!), and the first one from list B.

Is anyone else choosing from this list? What are you taking.

im doing A1, B1 and Carousel for list C- its one of the alternative pieces

Yes, group two, because I hate F#, don't ask why.

Anyone else taking this exam?

Neil,

I am taking grade 7 this summer. Originally, I was doing A1: Allegro and I was going to take the grade this spring but the A piece developed some technical problems and playing it hurt my wrist a little so I changed the A piece to A4: Corrente. I am really glad I changed now as I really like this alternative piece. I found it really easy to learn and I love playing it. I believe I will get a better mark now that I am doing this piece.

I am also doing B2: Chanson de L'escarpolette which is okay. And finally, C5: Carousel which is quite easy to learn and fun to play.

Thanks Shelton

B2: looked pretty nasty, and my teacher agreed, but obviously you enjoy it so good luck. Interesting both of you chose Carousel from list C. I will look at the Bernstein and see how I get on with it.

shelton- what problems did you have with A1, im worried now!

Clarinetlover,

Concerning A1, I found that when I played it very slowly, I could manage the piece but when I started to quicken things up a little, I found my little finger on my right hand wouldn't play some of the notes. It just wouldn't do it! I don't know how else I can describe it. For example, at the end of bar 6, my 4th and 5th fingers wouldn't play the top g-f-g. My fingers just couldn't cope with such technical difficulties. However, as I have already mentioned in previous posts, I am really enjoying the Corrente (A:4) and I have no problems with it at all so now I am a happy bunny!

Take care,

SO what did you choose instead of B1? One of my girls chose B4 - Butterfly but its much more difficult!
saxlover
we're talking about the grace notes in the C piece, C3 i think it is..i am doing B1
noodle
Sorry, I wasn't paying enough attention. That Hungarian thing? The grace notes will be fun.
saxlover
yeah, i took one look at it and immediately looked at something else. its awful!!
noodle
I think Carousel is a much better choice, or C1 - For Johnny Mehegan.
saxlover
it was between those 2. i choseCarousel becasue i dont like fast octaves!
noodle
Fast octaves in C1? Must try and find it and have a look.
