Teacher has just phoned with my Gr 6 piano results - I got distinction!! I was absolutely speechless. I thought i'd failed or at best scraped a pass. Hope everyone else's results are as nice a surprise for them.

After I'd done the exam i was incredibly down about it cos i felt it hadn't gone at all well & i was thinking maybe i'd reached a sort of limit that i was capable of. Now i'm thinking that it would be lovely to aim for gr 7 & then maybe 1 day gr 8. It's a wonderful feeling especially as I think I've always had this memory of playing as a child & being told that i wasn't very good at it. Not surprising that I stopped playing when I was 11 & didn't play again for 26years.

Well done! I'm doing the Gr. 6 exam quite soon and your success
is very encouraging! Keep up the good work and hope you do as well in Grade 7.
ps. What pieces did you play???

I did Corant -A1, Vals poetico- B3, & Prayer of the matador - C2. If you have listened to the AB cd I didn't play prayer of the matador as they played it on the cd. I got 29 for Corant & 28 each for the other two. I actually thought the corant was for me the most difficult - getting all the ornaments even & clear.

Yes, i think i still am. It really gave a boost to my self esteem & confidence. The strange thing though is that I felt slightly down about getting a merit for my grade 5 flute exam -(now I do sound nuts don't i?) teacher thought i could get a distinction for that but a merit is great isn't it after only a year - suppose i just thought that had actually gone OK whereas I thought the piano one had gone badly. Just shows i haven't got a clue about my playing!

I think we all experience that!! The pleased/disappointed thing is very hard for me to understand. I dreaded my grade 5 results, and genuinely thought i'd failed but ended up getting a merit which was really pleasing. But then I thought, 'just a few more marks and it could've been distinction'. I feel angry with myself for not being satisfied, but I think we are always aiming higher which maybe isnt such a bad thing.

congrats! I remember in Grade 4, I thought i really did badly. But I ended up getting 120.
