Has anyone played the harry potter music, lord of the rings or any other soundtrack music on the guitar - one of my pupils was asking about it, but I've never really been into this - except for specifically guitar pieces e.g. Cavatina
all ears
Viohazard's at school, and you'll (probably) be asleep by the time he gets back, so I'll ask him to add some info later on his favorite sound-tracks...he plays movie music all the time, starting the minute he gets home from the movie. biggrin.gif

He plays movie music on violin too, but the beauty of guitar is that he can just pick out the melody, or decorate it and add any kind of bass, making it sound just as classical or as stringed-out as he wants...

There's some great music being written for movies. I think if Viohazard had his way (and doesn't become a geologist!) he'd rather be a composer of music for movies than anything else.

A cellist was talking to me about recording for "Howl's Moving Castle" recently. She said they played facing a big screen, so that they could tweak their timing to perfectly fit the motion onscreen. They all had to sign secrecy agreements until it was released.

How about game soundtracks? Many are short, simple, and attractive tunes.

Viohazard adores the Lord of the Rings music, but most of the earlier movies feature violin heavily, and I haven't heard him play stuff from the Fellowship movie on his guitar. A nice guitar piece from Howard Shore is "Romaine 7000" from the movie "The Aviator". Viohazard hasn't heard this one yet smile.gif .

Oh and I'm sorry, can't resist one more... Elliot Goldenthal, and if you want a more classical guitar mood, look particularly at his score for "Frida". Even the piano pieces would sound wonderful on guitar.
