My theory and musical history teacher gives us musical instrument quizzes and last week we started talking about the lowest instruments in the world. He said there was no such thing as a bass saxophone for a start. huh.gif But then I thought of another low instrument. A jazz band I'm in went to france last year and we went to a music museum. They had this huge double bass except it wasn't a double bass it was called something else. Its a string instrument that is about the height of two people. It has pedals at the bottom and there is only like two playable ones in the world. This particular one has only ever been performed on once because it wasn't very popular. If someone out there knows the name of this really big and low playing string instrument you will have proved a teacher wrong who has said there is no such thing and who I'm already amazed didn't know there was a saxophone lower than a Baritone. blink.gif

It is called an (or the I suppose since it is the only one of its kind) "octobass", made in France in 1848 by Vuillame. Sorry for being the lowest of the low and knowing the answer to your question.

By the way did you get your name from the simpsons? My equivalent would be viomalin
