hey,
i was just wondering if anyone had had (sorry about the had's) any bad experiences in an exam room.
i'm quite lucky really, the only one i've ever had is when i fell up the steps (which were tiny about 10cm high) and dropped my sax

. thankfully it hadn't broken and played perfectly but i felt soooo embarest. the worst that i had ever felt before, i was so humilliated that i nearly turned purple(sorry bout all the spellings).
anyway, i bet more people have had really bad experiences.
are you willing to share your story??????

Hi
A friend just did grade 4 piano, and only learnt off the first pattern of broken chords, the teacher telling her only 1 was required. The examiner asked for both, to the dismay of this young pupil who was then told both patterns need to be covered. It came as a disappointing shock during the exam.
The syllabus clearly points out for Broken Chords.... 'BOTH' (in italics) need to be covered, so it was a case of both teacher and pupil not being aware it.
I'm not sure how often this happens, but I thought it best to remind everyone (pupils and teachers) to check the syllabus requirements for their paticular grade - its very easy to overlook something, and I can imagine its not pleasant to find out from the examiner!
You're so lucky your sax was ok!!!

Hmmm, yeah. My first (and probably last!) percussion exam, about 30mins ago! Dunno what went wrong, but I just totally flopped! The examiner was very kind and patient, but I knew from the start I wouldn't pass this time.

Yeah i did my grade 8 piano yesterday and their was a trainee examiner AND a normal examiner. About half way through one of my pieces they started having a conversation, which i thought was v rude cos I worked really hard for this exam!

I stopped playing and (even though i knew they were talking to eachother), pretended I thought they were talking to me!! They were v v apologetic, and looked really embarassed! They were silent for the rest of my exam tho. Just hav to see what the result is lol

A long time ago when I was a trombone player (I'm a french horn player now) I was waiting to go in for my grade 4 exam with my school music teacher who was going to accompany me and my trombone teacher.
I was the first person of the day so they suggested I ran through a few scales to get me warmed up. So I played one and the music teacher said 'ah B flat major' and I said 'no' and then they proceeded to have a discussion about what scale I might have played.

After that I didn't have a clue what I'd played and went in feeling well confindent!
It was about 11 years ago now and I can remember the rest but I've still got the certificate so it must have been OK in the end!

I was walking towards the music stand with my clarinet I was concentrating so hard on remembering all my scales I fell over the piano stall and all you heard was this almighty crash! The examiner thought it was funny though!

For my first exam on my trumpet i was really worried. I was preparing i the waiting room and as my exam time close in i was starting to get butterflies and all that. I heard the examination room door open and suddenly the pupil who had jus had her exam burst in through the door crying her eyes out!!!!!
I can hardly say that helped my nerves, but hey!!!
I passed with a merit and she got the pass mark!!!!
So its never as bad as you think it is.

In my grade 3 clarinet exam, I messed up my scales, so I started to cry in the exam................................
In my grade 4 clarinet exam, I couldn't pitch the notes right in my aural, so the examiner asked if I wanted to sing lower notes.......................

i was in grade 6 viola, and my G-string (on my viola) peg just slipped completely half way thru my first piece. i had to stop and the examiner had to tune it cos i was really unsure about whether to go get a new string lol. i was like "i hope i havent lost any marks"
then i got 135 distinction!!!!
wow
these things happen tho!

I was in my g6 piano exam and i totally messed up. Did all my scales wrong and on one of them i ran out of keys on the piano and had to start again! Then i proceeded to sing out of tune. the examiner was really nasty and laffed at me.i finished off by walking into a wall thinking it was a door and then having to ask the examiner where the door was!!!!!!!(it was all wood and relli hard 2 tell). but still, surprised that i got 115, even tho my piano teacher thought i'd get distinction...woops!

The room was too cold...I couldn't stop shivering and it affected my playing
so I turned around (it was just the first few bars)and asked the examiner whether I could repeat it again-she was trying not to laugh when she saw me shivering!(hey,I live in a tropical climate and she was from europe!)
got a 118 or something in the end...I expected worse

hey princesa siempre vende, where are you from?? Your name sounds spanish! For my Grade 6 piano, I learnt the chromatic scales separately - one starting on C and the other starting on E. I nearly had a panic attack when the examiner asked me to play them together....

I personally don't member doing anything too bad, but I member telling the examiner that he should get outside cos it was a nice day.
Also had an examnier hu had a music tie.. thought that was cute
I've heard some realli funni stories from my teacher tho.
Once a lilttle girl goes to the examiner "do u think my dress is pretty" the examiner replied "yes its lovely" then the gurl said "well my teacher thinks its realli lovely" (!)
The same day a little boy after his exam gets a piece of cake from his pack pocket, that looked like he'd sat on it for ages and mumbled" this is for you" but later told her it was actually for my teacher!
Later the examnier wanted to meet my teacher cos she'd heard so much from the students bout her!
Also one year an examnier told a a boy to warm up so he goes and runs round the hall!!!

Ha ha! That's funny. If you think that's bad...
There was a girl once who went into her grade 1 clarinet exam. Her examiner had actually composed the piece that she was playing. She sat down and started playing. To be perfectly honest it sounded awful and nothing like it was meant to. So when the girl had finished the examiner said, "I actually composed this piece. Let me sit down and I'll play it to you." So he played it, got up and asked, "Did you notice any difference?" So the little girl went, "Ooh yes sir, the seat's warmer!"

my grade 4 was one big mishap. about 3 or 4 months before the exam i broke mi finger and lost use of two fingers for 6 weeks.
Then in the exam i forgot part of the left hand start of the piece, and after about 5 mins of trying, the examiner came over and showed me the book, how humiliating! i still got 23 for the piece though, and 116 for the exam. not my best though.

I know someone who got their brace tightened the day before the exma, got into the exam and couldn't play a thing. The examiner just ut on her form thing, "would have been graet if only she could play".
