I have learnt Deux Arabesque No.1 recently and my teacher has asked me to play more of his pieces, so I'm looking for a book of masterpieces of Debussy such as Claire de Lune and The girl with the flaxen hair. Can anybody recommend a good book to me? (BTW, I'm a G8 student)

Apart from Debussy, I am also considering the following books:

(1) Mozart sonatas published by AB

(2) Bach's The Well Tempered (Book 1) published by:
(i) Barenreiter-Urtext (the most expensive)
(ii) AB (moderate price)
(iii) Schirmer (the cheapest)

(3) Chopin's Nocturnes published by:
(i) Urtext (the most expensive)
(ii) AB (moderate price)
(iii) Schirmer (the cheapest)

What do you think of these editors or publishers? What would be your preference? I really cannot make up my mind.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I would go for the AB editions for your other choices. If your finances allow aim for the clothback rather than paperback. The pages don`t fly back!
I used to buy one book per month.

I find the print in Schirmer too squashed up and the urtext is rather expensive like you say....although I have Haydn Sonatas ( Weiner Urtext paperback...all 4 of `em ) in my possession....very nice, but expensive.

If you go for the paperback use that clear sticky back stuff as a protective film.

Some of my students have The Library of Piano Classics - a volume of about 90 pieces of varying degrees of difficulty by over 30 composers. The 2 Debussy pieces you mention are there along with Minstrels and a few others. There aer 3 Chopin Nocturnes, well known pieces by Mozart, Haydn, Bach, Schubert.... It costs about £18 but its well worth the money, when you consider how much you would pay for 3 of the pieces individually, and it is a fantastic source of repertoire material.

Other than that AB editions.
